COAL GROVE, Ohio (July 18) - The ninth race of the season got underway on Friday, July 18th under hot and sunny skies. A strong field of 64 total cars from all across Ohio, Kentucky, and West Virginia came to race.

In the 30 lap Late Model A-Main, Jamie Ferguson and Shannon Thornsberry battled side by side for the lead at the start. Ferguson would take the lead and lead the first two laps. On lap three, third place starter Jackie Boggs made a strong run on Ferguson and would take the lead as Ferguson pulled off a few laps later with a flat tire. As the race moved past the halfway point, Terry Hicks began to close in on Boggs as the two battled for the lead.

Hicks stayed right on Boggs' bumper for around seven laps until Boggs started pulling away towards the lap twenty mark to come to the checkered flag and claim his fifth win of the season! Hicks finished second with Joe Ramey third, Chris Wilson fourth, and Rick Christian fifth. Jamie Ferguson won the Tri-America Contractors Dash while Rick Whitt and Marty Huntley won Engines Inc. heat races.

The start of the Tomahawk Race Car Modified A-Main would see a vicious crash as polesitter Craig Christian got crossed up in front of the field on the front straightaway and hit Greg Thompson. Thompson would get airborn, hit the guardrail and flip several times as his car at one point was out of the ballpark, flipping on the hillside before flipping back onto the race track. Thankfully, Thompson was ok.

When the race resumed, nobody would have anything for Todd Robinson as he led every lap to claim his sixth win of the season. Davey Warnock finished second with Jim Wilson third, Jake Keaton fourth, and Chris Shelton fifth. Craig Christian won the Tri-America Contractors Dash while Jake Keaton and Davey Warnock won Engines Inc. heat races.

The Bomber A-Main saw a great side by side battle for the lead between Jeremie Bretz and Perry Dearing. The two battled side by side for the opening four laps of the race until Bretz made the pass on lap five as the two split lapped traffic. Bretz would go on to take his second win of the season with David Dunn in second, Perry Dearing third, John Rayburn fourth, and Brian Sammons fifth. Dearing and Bretz won Engines Inc. heat races.

In the Mod Lite A-Main, Dennis Lampheir would lead the opening lap until Jerry Cushing made a strong pass to take the lead on lap two. Unfortunately, a caution would fly on lap three as Lampheir stopped with mechanical problems. On the restart, Cushing would see Tyler Reno right on his tail as the two battled side by side for the lead. Reno would make the pass on lap six and go on to remain undefeated at Rocky Top! Cushing finished second with Rodney Cossin third, Randy Armes fourth, and Gary Griffith fifth. Lampheir and Cushing won Engines Inc. heat races.
