YORK HAVEN, Penn. (July 14) - Barry Klinedinst Motorsports and the Back-to-Back and defending Mid-Atlantic Championship Series (MACS) Champion Jason Covert enjoyed what Covert says a 'fan friendly' weekend this past Friday and Saturday at Bedford Speedway and Hagerstown Speedway as Jason started deep in the field at both facilities to bag a win and a runner-up finish.

Covert and crew spent their Independence Day weekend in Ohio with visits to Muskingum County Speedway in Zanesville and Portsmouth Raceway Park in Portsmouth. On Thursday, July 3rd it was the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned 'Crenos 50' at the Zanesville, OH oval where Jason would win his heat race in the Barry Klinedinst Motorsports owned Pre-Mach, Inc. / Red Wing Shoes / Hershey's Racing Engines / Rocket Chassis Monte Carlo #43A. Covert would run as high as second in the early stages of the 50 lap, $10,000 to win event until fading to a very respectable fifth place finish.

On Friday, July 4th the team took a break as the MACS sanctioned 'Independence Day 50' at Portsmouth Raceway Park was postponed to Sunday, July 6th due to weather but Jason and team got back after it on Saturday, July 5th for the $10,000 to win, MACS sanctioned 'Pepsi 75'. Covert set the third quickest time in the AlturnaMATS 'Shock the Clock' Time Trials which, due to the MACS invert, put him in the fourth starting spot in the third heat race. Jason finished third in his heat to put him in the redraw for the feature where he drew a '7' to start seventh. Covert battled his way through the field and through the Ohio River fog to a second place finish behind race winner Eddie Carrier Jr. On Sunday, Covert again finished third in his heat and was slated to start the postponed 'Independence Day 50' in the 13th spot. Jason quickly worked his way into the top ten and came home sixth at the end of the night stretching his MACS point lead to 150 points over Doug Horton.

This past weekend the BK Motorsports team found themselves at Bedford Speedway for a $5,000 to win event. Covert was to start his heat race on the outside of the front row but mechanical issues kept the #43A pit side for the heat. As a result, Jason started the B-Main on the tail. Covert wasted no time moving through the field to win the B-Main to put him in the 50 lap main event. Jason had his work cut out for him as he was to start 17th in the feature event. The York Haven, PA wheelman was up to the task as he methodically worked his way through the pack and up to sixth by lap 20. Just five circuits later Covert got by Gary Stuhler for third. Less than five laps later, Jason made his way around Jeremy Miller for second and set his sights on race leader Donnie Moran. With five laps remaining Covert went to the outside of Moran for the lead and held on after a late race caution to pick up a cool $5,000 coincidently, on his wife's (Jaynelle) birthday.

The following night at Hagerstown saw Jason start the feature event in the ninth slot. Covert fell backwards early in the event but regrouped quickly and started to move through the field. Jason reached the second position on lap 24 of the 25 lap event and made a last ditch effort coming out of turn four to get by race leader Jeremy Miller but just ran out of laps to collect his second win in as many nights.

'Wow,' said Covert from his home in York Haven, PA, 'It was a pretty exciting weekend for us. We just had a great car both nights this weekend. I think if we would have had one or two more laps at Hagerstown we could have won that one too. Our American Racers really hooked up at both places. Look at the Hagerstown results, top three on (American) Racers. I think that says a lot in how far they have come in giving everyone good competitive tires.' Jason continued, 'If anything, I think we made a few fans this past weekend. We all like to watch guys come from the back to win, it would have been nice to do it two days in a row though,' laughed Covert.
Covert and the BK Motorsports team are unsure on their plans for this upcoming weekend. Keep an eye on www.kmotorsports43a.com this week to see when the BK Motorsports team will return to action.
