Kelley Carlton GAFFNEY, S.C. (February 15) - The O'Reilly Southern All Stars East Racing Series will officially kick off the 2008 campaign Saturday afternoon, February 23rd at the Travelers Rest Speedway in Travelers Rest, SC. The event will pay $4000 to the winner. Several drivers have expressed their intent on attending the event at the 3/8ths mile oval. "We have been getting a lot of calls about this race so it should be a great event. Jody Palmer and his team at TR have really done a great job with that track and they have had some really good races. We are looking forward to getting back up there." said OSAS-East Race Director Kelley Carlton.
"We should have a good car count and a really good show. They have got the track in really good shape so it should be an exciting race. We had a great season last year and it looks like 2008 will be even bigger and better. Bringing in a title sponsor like O'Reilly Auto Parts has really given us a boost up and we want to do a good job for them. We are releasing the 2008 schedule but we are expecting to add a couple more races to it. But it is a really good schedule now. We have added a few venues and we will be returning to some others." commented Series Co-owner Lennie Buff.
The 2008 OSAS-East Schedule includes sixteen dates in the Carolinas and Georgia. The schedule is anchored by three big purse events. March Madness VI and Cherokee Hall of Fame both at Cherokee Speedway in Gaffney, SC and The Georgia Outlaw State Championship (which is co-sanctioned by sister series the O'Reilly Southern All Star Racing Series) will all pay $10,000 to the winner. The series will pay a total of six visits to the storied Gaffney, SC venue. The series also makes multiple stops at Travelers Rest and Cleveland County Speedways.
New tracks for 2008 include Hartwell Speedway in Hartwell, GA and Fayetteville Motor Speedway in Fayetteville, NC. A pair of Georgia ovals in Lavonia Speedway and Golden Isles Speedway makes their return to the schedule. Also returning is Cleveland County Speedway (formerly Thunder Valley Speedway) in Lawndale, NC. The series will also make a stop again at Mileback Speedway in Gray Court, SC and visit Lancaster Speedway in Lancaster, SC for the first time.
