Ben Shelton VICKSBURG, Miss. (January 29) - Last weekend, Bub McCool loaded his #57J Trakstar/Barker Racing Engine Super Late Model and headed northeast to Columbus Speedway in Columbus, Mississippi for the 8th Annual Carl Hogan Honda Winter Classic on a weekend where Old Man Winter ultimately took the checkered flag.
Last weekend Columbus Speedway was set to kick off their 2008 season, but wintry weather had other ideas as a freezing drizzle fell through midday on Saturday. As a result, the staff was forced to postpone the event until this coming weekend. McCool will once again be locked and loaded as he looks to pick up his first win of the 2008 season at a track that has been very good to him in the past. The weekend gets underway with an open practice from 4pm to 8pm on Friday, February 1st and racing action slated to get underway at 2pm on Saturday, February 2nd. The Super Late Model portion of the event is 40 laps and pays $3,000 to win and $200 to start. For more information, please visit www.ColumbusSpeedway.net .
Bub has been in action once so far in 2008, as he entered the 17th Annual Ice Bowl at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Alabama a few weeks ago. He qualified 7th in his group, which earned him a 7th starting position in his heat race. McCool fell just short of transferring from his heat race by finishing 4th, but was able to transfer out of his consolation race on Sunday into the main event. Bub started 24th in the feature, and despite a one lane race track managed to finish 12th in Sunday afternoon's main event.
