SEDALIA, Mo. (January 25) - The 2008 racing season is rapidly approaching and officials with Sedalia's State Fair Speedway recently finalized plans for the season.  Although the Historic 1/2 Mile will not have weekly racing there will be something for everyone in 2008.

The action kicks off of Tuesday, June 24, with the return of the UMP Summer Nationals to Sedalia for the first time since 1992.  This grueling series will see drivers from around the country compete in 27 races over a 31 day period from mid-June through mid-July.  "To be able to bring the UMP Summer Nationals to Sedalia's State Fair Speedway is something that we worked very hard to accomplish once we found out there was an open date," commented director of competition Clint Brown.  "The quality of drivers that travel this series are second to none.  Then throw in the tough competition from the drivers in our area and this will be one heck of a show for the fans to see."  Past UMP Summer Nationals champions reads like a who's who of dirt late models with Scott Bloomquist, Shannon Babb, Dennis Erb, Billy Moyer, Rick Aukland, and Don O'Neal taking titles in the past.  The evening will also see modifieds take to the Sedalia's State Fair Speedway dirt looking to take the top spot.  "We also wanted to offer this type of a show at a reasonable price to the fans and we feel we've been able to do just that."

Adult grandstand admission for the night will be $18.00 with Seniors & Military only $15.00.  Kids 6-12 will be admitted for $12.00 while those 5 & under are free.  Pit Passes for the evening are $30.00.  The grandstand gates will swing open at 5:00 pm with hot laps rolling off at 6:30 and heat races hitting the track at 7:00 pm.  The pit gates will open at 3:00 pm with a mandatory driver's meeting taking place at 6:15 pm.

Also in 2008 racing will once again return to the Missouri State Fair, but with the addition of a second date.  On Thursday, August 14, the gates will swing open with the street stocks, ULMA late models, and modifieds taking to the track.  "It's great to be able to offer the fans and drivers an additional chance to compete during the 2008 Missouri State Fair," stated Brown. "It's been a couple of years since we have been able to run the street stocks during the fair and we're glad to be able to bring them back. To also be able to bring the ULMA late models in along with our modified competitors adds all of the ingredients for a fantastic show."

Sunday, August 17, will see the 2008 fair close out once again with racing action as the modifieds, O'Reilly MLRA Late Models, and O'Reilly Winged Outlaw Warriors 360 Sprints will battle it out for the top spot.  "Over the
last couple of years we have had a fantastic turnout of fans and drivers for this event and we are working to make this show bigger and better every year," stated Brown.

Ticket prices for the August 14 event are set at the low price of $8.00 for adults with kids 6-12 only $5.00 while those 5 & under are free.  This admission price does not include admission to the fair (which is required),
but for 2008 the Missouri State Fair has tabbed this date as a $1 day with
fair admission only being $1.00.  Pit passes will be $25.00.  The grandstand
gates will swing open at 5:00 pm with hot laps rolling off at 6:30 and heat
races hitting the track at 7:00 pm.  The pit gates will open at 3:00 pm with
a mandatory driver's meeting taking place at 6:15 pm.

August 17 will see the same pricing in effect as it was for 2007 with adults
being only $15.00, Seniors & Military at $12.00, and kids 6-12 $10.00.
Those children 5 & under will be admitted free.  Pit passes will be $25.00
for the evening. The grandstand gates will swing open at 5:00 pm with hot
laps rolling off at 6:30 and heat races hitting the track at 7:00 pm.  The
pit gates will open at 3:00 pm with a mandatory driver's meeting taking
place at 6:15 pm.
