Bill Martin DAVENPORT, Iowa (July 14) - Another doubleheader is next on the schedule for the Deery Brothers Summer Series.
The IMCA J & J Steel Late Model tour is at Davenport Speedway for a Tuesday, July 22 show, and at Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa on Wednesday, July 23. Both features pay $2,000 to win.
Davenport makes up the event rained out back on April 18, opening the pit gates at 4 p.m. and the grandstand at 5 p.m. Hot laps are set for 6 p.m. and racing for 6:30 p.m.
Deery drivers end a five-year absence from Osky the next night. Pit gates and the grandstand open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6 p.m. and racing is at 7 p.m.
Five-time series champion Jeff Aikey of Waterloo has won four of the previous 13 events held at Davenport. Aikey is also the most recent Deery winner at Southern Iowa Speedway, on June 18 of 2003, and leads all drivers with three career checkers on the half-mile oval. Mike Smith of Jewell has won there twice.
Seventeen dates are on the 2008 series schedule and different drivers have won at each of the first eight events.
Todd Cooney, Mike Collins, Andy Nezworski, Denny Woodworth, Justin Reed, Tom Darbyshire, Terry Neal and most recently Boone McLaughlin own tour victories thus far.
McLaughlin is the point leader heading to Davenport.
Classic sponsors trophies for Deery Series feature winners
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (July 14) - The winner of every Deery Brothers Sum mer Series feature event this season takes home a Classic.
Classic Trophy of Fort Wayne, Ind., is the trophy sponsor for the IMCA J & J Steel Late Model tour. Seventeen dates are scheduled this season, at tracks in Iowa, Illinois and Nebraska.
