BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (October 9) - Bobby Hogge of Salinas, CA took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led all 50 laps to complete the $5,000 weekend sweep in the West Coast Shootout Late Model Series action during the 25th Annual Bud West Coast Dirt Nationals on Saturday night. Hogge, the 2009 Western All Stars DIRTcar Champion, also made a clean sweep of the evening by taking the $2,500 Modified main event victory on the quick quarter-mile oval.

Hogge again had to contest the 50-lap race with Santa Maria Speedway champion Mike Johnson of Lompoc, CA. In Friday night's feature, Hogge chased Johnson until contact resulted in Johnson spinning out of the lead late in the race, giving Hogge the victory. On Saturday, Hogge quickly jumped ahead of pole sitter Johnson and it was Johnson's turn to give chase. However, Hogge never relinquished the lead and on lap 48 Johnson's #7 Fringer Motorsports mount pulled off the track after running second the duration of the race. Fast qualifier John Lowrey of Bakersfield, CA finished in the runner-up spot followed by Steve Drake of San Luis Obispo, CA and Willamette (OR) Speedway champion Trevor Glaser.

Glaser captured the first heat race over Mike Kirby. Petaluma Speedway champion Jeff Decker won the second heat over Andy Obertello. Hometown racer Robert Sanders won the third heat and 2008 WAS champion Chris Shannon topped heat four. Billy Workman Jr and Jason Selvidge scored B-Main event wins.

Mike Kirby of Torrance, CA clinched his second straight West Coast Late Model Shootout Series championship with an 11th place finished edging out Steve Drake.
