EAST SMETHSPORT, Penn. (September 25) - Solon Springs, Wisconsin invader, Brady Smith made the sixteen hour drive to McKean County Raceway in E. Smethport, PA well worth it by capturing the 5th Annual Priority Care RaceFAN 50 and going back to the Badger state with a cool $13,000! Brady led the entire race lapping over half the field and getting the crowd on their feet several times in daring three wide passes in lap traffic.

Brady Smith and Gregg Satterlee of Rochester Mils, Pennsylvania led the twenty-five car field to John Powell's, green flag. As the field roared down the front stretch, ninth place starter, Brent Rhebergen #07R machine would snap right resulting a pile up in turn one eliminating last year's winner, Russell King and Matt Lux. Big block modified driver, Billy Decker of Baldwinsville, NY, Dave Lyon of Corry and Bump Hedman of Sugar Grove were also involved, all three would restart the event.

On the second try to start the event it was a successful start with Smith jumping out to the lead over Satterlee. Thompson, PA driver, Dan Stone would move into third on lap three as Dave Hess Jr. would move Chris Hackett back to fifth on lap later. Satterlee and Stone would wage battle for second place as Smith would start to pull away from the field. With ten laps downs the top five were Brady Smith by a straightaway over Satterlee and Stone, who were in a torrid battle for second followed by Hess and Hackett. Smith would start to enter laps traffic on lap thirteen. With lap twenty in the books it was Smith with a commanding lead over Satterlee. With half the event in the books fans realized the traveling star from Wisconsin was in a different zip code than the rest of the field and the race now was for second between Satterlee and Stone and the battle fifth was heating up with seventeen year old, Larry Wright of Phoenix, NY applying pressure on Hackett. Wright would move around Hackett on lap twenty-nine for fifth as Smith was now in deep in lap traffic putting ULMS point leader, Boom Briggs down a lap along with Scott Lebarron, Decker, Chad Valone and David Scott. With fifteen to go, Big Brother, Dan Stone would move into second putting Satterlee back to third ahead of Hess and Wright. Stone would move away from Satterlee, as Wright now would be the car on the move as he would get by Hess and Satterlee . With double checkers flying, Brady Smith would cross the line with six lap cars between him and Dan Stone. Following Smith and Stone was the seventeen year old Wright followed by Hess and Satterlee. The next five were Hackett, Chub Frank who won the 2006 RaceFAN 50 and 2007 winner, Rob Blair who started 16th, Mike Knight and Billy Decker regrouped from his opening lap crash to finish tenth in his first ever MCR start.

Forty-eight late models were on hand for the Northern Tier Inc. ULMS sanctioned event. Heat winners were Hackett, Smith, Satterlee, Hess and Wright. Rob Blair and John Lobb were the consolation winners. Notable drivers failing to make the field were Rich Gardner, Jared Miley, Vic Coffey, Sam Stile Bob Close, Jason Dupont, Delaware's, Ricky Elliott, Friday nights winner, Dick Barton, Dennis Lunger and West Virginia driver, Doug Horton.

The name Bob Close has been a dominant name over the years at McKean County Raceway and the Eldred, PA driver, who announced that 2010 was going to be his last full-time year driving, was able to pick up one more win at his home track driving the brand new machine owned by William Southwell.

Close would start on the outside front row with Dave Hess Jr. Close would beat Hess on the opening lap with Hess and Rich Michael Jr in tow. With five laps down, the top three were the same as they started to distanced themselves from rest of the field. Kari Gasser was fourth ahead of Brent Rhebergen, Russ Dunn, Al Brewer and Randy Hall all in a tight battle for fourth. Dunn would move into fifth on lap sixth as Hall would jump to sixth. With ten in the books it was still Close battling Hess for the lead. By lap twenty the lead duo had entered lap traffic and lap twenty one would lap cars of Tim Engles and Leonard Enos make it tight racing and contact by Close and Enos resulted in Hess nicking Enos and a left rear flat tire ending his shot at winning. On the restart it was Michael on the back bumper of Close, but it was the "Razor" leading the final four laps over five time 2010 UEMS winner, Michael, Dunn, Rhebergen, Gasser, Hall, Brewer, Justin Carlson, John Boyd and Butch Southwell rounded out the top ten. Heat winners were Close, Brewer, Boyd and Rhebergen.

The Northern Tier Inc ULMS Late Model Series will close out their 2010 season next Sunday at Central PA Speedway in Clearfield, PA for a Topless event paying $2500 to win. The United Emod Series will have their season finale next Saturday night at Mercer Raceway Park in Mercer, PA with a $2000 to win event.
