Glenn Slocum BUSTI, N.Y. (September 10) - Friday was opening night for the Roberts Trucking September Spectacular and Mother Nature delivered clear skies. Thirty-one Super Late Models attempted to gain one of the twenty-four starting spots for the $5,000 top prize in the Friday edition of the ULMS Roberts Trucking Super Late Model Spectacular.
Robbie Blair waited until nine to go to make his charge to the front for his second ULMS victory of the season winning the first round of the Roberts Trucking Super Late Model September Spectacular.
Chris Hackett led the first circuit of the Roberts Trucking Super Late Model feature after stating in the number two spot. On lap two veteran Dick Barton was second with pole sitter Andy Kania third and Chad Valone fourth. Scott Gurdak stopped high in turn three for the first caution of the event with six laps complete. Hackett, Barton, Kania, Valone and Jason Morell were the leaders. Barton and Hackett cross the start finish line dead even on lap eight and Barton led by a nose on lap nine then by a car length on lap ten. Kania held on to the third spot with Robbie Blair fourth from his ninth starting spot and Valone fifth. Barton continued to extend his lead as the first fifteen of forty laps came to a close. Barton entered lap traffic just one lap before the half way mark. Boom Briggs nearly recovered from a spin between turns three and four but was bumped by a passing racer for caution number two. During the yellow Dave Hess was stopped by the official for leaking fluid then pushed into the pits. Barton led the single file restart. Mike Knight was the only racer making headway after the restart then he succumbed with mechanical problems with 13 laps remaining. Barton, Hackett, Blair, Kania and Valone led. With ten laps remaining Barton led Hackett by five car lengths. With nine laps remaining Blair made his charge to the front using the outside to pass Hackett then one lap later did the same the Barton and with two to go led Barton by half a straight. Blair handily won the event his second ULMS victory of the season.
