WHEEL, Tenn. (November 8) - The Southern Regional Racing Series, presented by PPM Racing Products, crowned a 2 time champion during the Hastings/Smith Memorial at Duck River Speedway on Saturday night. Byron Michael from Florence, Al took the Star Grafix Pole Award in his TNT Fireworks Performance Connection Rocket, with a 13:215 second lap. A sweet victory in itself, this also clinched his 2008 title. Brandon Kinzer of Allen, Ky in his Kinzer Drilling GRT, started on the outside with a 13.235.
As the 24-car field rolled off the line, Michaels went to the lead with Kinzer close behind. What seemed to be a sure win for Michaels, ended in lap 22 when Kinzer passed for the lead. Kinzer then moved into another zipcode as he pulled away from the rest of the field. Kinzer taking the win with Michael second, Daniel Miller third, Eric Turner fourth and Brandon King fifth.
Muscle Shoals, AL's Anthony Burroughs, flipped his Stuckey Enterprises / ABC Cash Register Mastersbilt, end over end, during his qualifying run, landing on top of the turn one wall. Fortunately, he was uninjured.
Muscle Shoals, AL's Nick Howell, barrel-rolled his Les Howell Construction Mastersbilt, during his heat. He was also uninjured.
