GAFFNEY, S.C. (June 30) - The O'Reilly Southern All Star EAST Dirt Late Model Series will get back into action this Thursday night July 3rd at Cherokee Speedway for the annual fan favorite Independent Shootout. Racing the night before July 4th allows many teams and fans the chance to visit the track known as 'the place your momma warned you about'. The O'Reilly EAST Main event will feature 40 laps of Super Late Model madness for $4,000. This race has always provided a spectacular fireworks show - both off and on the track, and Thursday night promises to be no different.

O'Reilly EAST Point leader Casey Roberts extended his lead over Rambo Franklin, Monk Gulledge, Petey Ivey, Chris Madden and GR Smith with a 6th place finish at the Laurens County Shrine Race . Roberts and Franklin were engaged in a tight battle for the points lead. Franklin would finish 3rd ahead of Roberts at the Shrine race, but a tire rule infraction would cost Franklin his driver points and finishing position.

Drivers chasing the O'Reilly EAST points are expected to be at Cherokee, along with Jonathan Davenport, Jeff Cooke, Mike Duvall and many more. Support classes will include fan favorite Limited Sportsman, Super Stock and Street Stock 4, Renegade, and Young Gun divisions. The CITY Chevrolet CRATE Series will also be on the card running one of the $1,200 to win City Chevrolet Big 10 shootouts. This is the 5th of a 10 races series paying out an end of year bonus point fund of $7,500.

Grandstands open at 6:00. Drivers Meeting at 7:30. Racing will begin promptly at 8:00. If last weeks Lucas Oil Series at Cherokee was any indication of what's to come, fans may want to get there early. It was a packed house with plenty of 2 and 3 wide action in all classes. The EAST Main event will be moved up into the show allowing traveling fans a chance to leave when feature is over.

Up next on the O'Reilly EAST Series calendar will be Cherokee Speedway on August 8th for the running Inaugural Rock Gault Memorial. Cherokee Super Speedway is conveniently located off of I-85 exit 96 in Gaffney, SC. Track phone is (864) 489-1969. Email Contact: Lenny Buff at BuffRace@Bellsouth.net.
