LAURENS, S.C. (June 5) - The O'Reilly Southern All Star EAST Dirt Late Model Series will sanction the running of the 28th Annual Laurens County Shrine Race this Tuesday Night, June 10th at the historic Laurens Speedway. The event's motto sums up what Tuesday night will be about "Strong cars run, so weak legs can walk". All proceeds from the race will benefit the Shriner's Childrens Hospital. At $3000 to win, this event will be the largest race held at the Laurens Speedway this year.

Dubbed "The Darlington of Dirt Tracks", Laurens Speedway is one of the toughest tracks in the Carolinas. The High Bank 3/8 mile is known for its speed, action and close racing. The Laurens Shrine race has always been a favorite among local and regional drivers. Previous Shrine Race winners include Mike Duvall, Freddy Smith, Steve Francis, Ricky Weeks, Rambo Franklin, and Chris Madden.

Tuesday will be a homecoming for Gray Court, SC standout Chris 'Smokey' Madden. Laurens Speedway is where Chris Madden started his racing career, and he has quickly etched his name among dirt racing's Elite by winning his first World of Outlaws event in 2007. Madden has also joined the O'Reilly EAST points chase by winning the last O'Reilly EAST even held at Cherokee Speedway last month. Georgia's Casey Roberts 2nd place finish to Madden at Cherokee gave him the lead in the O'Reilly EAST standings. Dennis 'Rambo' Franklin is a close 2nd in points followed by Monk Gulledge, Travis Pennington, GR Smith and Chris Madden rounding out the top 6. The O'Reilly EAST point's championship will pay $10,000.00.

Tuesday night's 40 lap EAST main event will feature the O'Reilly EAST Super Late Models. Support classes will include Limited Late Models, Super Stock 4 and Hobby Divisions. Purses in all support divisions will be increased. Grandstands open at 6:00 and Racing will begin promptly at 8:00.

Laurens Speedway is located on By-pass 127 103 Collins Street Laurens, SC. Track phone is (864) 984-2427. More info can be found at www.southern-allstars.com and www.laurensspeedway.com.
