OSAS Media WOODRUFF, S.C. (January 5) - The 2010 Southern All Stars Racing Series Golden Isles season-opening Super Bowl is rapidly approaching. In advance of the new season the Series will be addressing a growing problem in dirt late model racing. The issue of tire treatments has become the hot topic throughout the dirt racing community. Concerns over the health hazard and threat to ground water have raised this issue to number one on the Series' tech agenda. In an effort to curb the use of ANY chemical alteration of tire compound the series has amended their tire rule for 2010 and beyond. In the past the Series has only strongly cautioned against the use of these agents however they are adopting a hard-line approach for the future.
"After much discussion with our racers and promoters as well as the input of Hoosier Tire Corporation we feel like we need to take the initiative to help eradicate the use of all chemical treatments and/or softeners. This has really become an issue of the safety and health or our fans, drivers, crews and officials. We want to send a message that we are serious about this subject and that we will not tolerate the use of these dangerous chemicals at our events." said Southern All Star Racing Series Director of Competition Kelley Carlton. "We will be making further announcements regarding penalties and enforcement in the coming days but we wanted to get the information out to the racers well in advance of our first event."
The 2010 Southern All Stars Rulebook will reflect the following under the TIRE RULE Section:
TIRE RULE Hoosier Racing Tires Only All Compounds are allowed Grooving, Needling and Siping are allowed
Chemical alterations of tires is strictly prohibited. No tire softeners or conditioners which alter the chemical compound of the tire will be permitted. This includes, but is not limited to, tire soaking, internal applications or the use of tread softeners. This will be strictly enforced.
