BOLAND SWEEPS NESMITH CHEVROLET RUMBLE ON THE GUMBO PRELIMINARIES AT GREENVILLE

GREENVILLE, Miss. (April 8) - Mike Boland of Cuba, AL swept the preliminary events on Friday night for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series "Rumble On The Gumbo" 75 at Greenville Speedway. Boland drove The Strength Center Trak-Star to fast time honors, and then won the first 12-lap heat race to earn the pole position for Saturday night's main event.

Boland out-timed the 34-car field with a lap around the ¼-mile gumbo clay oval in 15.104 seconds to earn the pole position for the first of four 12-lap heat races. Boland then led all 12 laps to win the heat race and take the inside front row starting spot for the $5,000-to-win Big Show on Saturday night.

NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series point leader Dan Breuer of Troutman, NC won the second heat race driving the AES Special to earn the outside front row starting spot for the Rumble On The Gumbo 75.

VP Racing Fuels Rookie of the Year candidate Mark Tice of Avon, MS won the third heat on his home track and will start the main event from the third starting spot in the Precision Marine Trak-Star. Chase Washington of Houlka, MS took the fourth heat race win in the Greg's Sawmill GRT and will start on the outside of row two in the Rumble On The Gumbo 75.

Drivers finishing in the top four spots in the four heat races transferred into the Rumble On The Gumbo 75 to make up the "Sweet 16." Row three starters in the main event are Chase Edge of Lafayette, AL in the Edge's Gas Company Special and Jeremy Shaw of Millport, AL in the Summit Resources Development Trak-Star, who finished second the first and second heats respectively.

Third heat second-place finisher Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS starts seventh in the Billy Riels Racing GRT, and fourth heat second-place finisher Johnny Stokes of Columbus, MS starts the TJC Mortgage/Maximum Signs and Graphics GRT in the eighth spot for the Saturday night main event.

The third place finishers in the first and second heats, Lamar Furr of Hollandale, MS in the Geddies Repair GRT and two-time NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Champion David Earl Gentry of Murfreesboro, TN in the Eads Farms/Dixon Plumbing Special, make up row five for the Rumble On The Gumbo 75.

Row six is made up of the third place finishers in the third and fourth heats. Bobby Jordan of McCarley, MS starts 11th in the Henderson Waste and Recycling Trak-Star and Duke Palasini of Leland, MS will start the Palasini Farms Special in the 12th spot.

Billy Tedford of Pontotoc, MS drove the Billy's Auto Repair GRT to a fourth-place finish in the first heat and will start on the inside of row seven for the main event, and Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA took the fourth spot in the second heat to earn the 14th starting spot for the Saturday night Big Show.

Rounding out the eighth row of the "Sweet 16" were the fourth place finishers in the third and fourth heat races. Wesley Greene of Winona, MS starts on the inside in the Transport Service Center Trak-Star, and Steve Cooke of Mt. Airy, NC goes from the outside in the AES Special.

Drivers that finished fifth on back in the four heat races on Friday night will have another opportunity to make the Rumble On The Gumbo 75 in one of two preliminary 15-lap B-Main races on Saturday night. The top four finishers in each B-Main race will transfer into the main event in starting positions 17 through 24.

On Saturday at Greenville Speedway, the gates open at 4 p.m., with the drivers meeting set for 6:30 p.m., and racing is scheduled for 7 p.m.
