NeSMITH CHEVROLET SEASON OPENER THIS WEEKEND AT WHYNOT MOTORSPORTS PARK

CARTERSVILLE, Ga. (January 12) - The 2010 season opener for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series will be this Friday and Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, MS with the Winter Bash highlighted by a 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event. The action begins on Thursday night with an open practice session with gates opening at 4 p.m., and practice from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

On Friday, the gates open at 4 p.m., with the drivers meeting scheduled for 7 p.m., with NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series Qualifying and Heat Races to follow. The series season opener has always featured a large car count, so competitors are urged to get to the track early on Friday to fill out their 2010 registration paperwork. Registration will open at 3 p.m. on Friday.

The Saturday schedule for the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS at Whynot Motorsports Park will have the gates opening at 10 a.m., with the drivers meeting scheduled for 1 p.m. and racing to follow. The NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS will run B-Main races and the 50-lap $3,000-to-win main event on Saturday.

In the event of inclement weather, the make up date is Sunday with gates opening at 10 a.m., drivers meeting at 1 p.m., and racing to follow.

Many familiar and many new faces will be throwing their hats in the ring for the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship. The 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Champion Eric Cooley of Fulton, MS will return this season to defend his title.

Larry Boutwell of Baker, FL will be looking to move up one spot in the points chase in 2010 after being the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Championship Runner-Up for the past two seasons. Matthew Turner of Dawsonville, GA will be looking to compete in his 87th consecutive series event. Turner is the only driver to compete in every National Touring event since the series inception in 2005.

Justin McRee of Woodstock, AL will run the series full time in 2010 after picking up two wins last season running a limited schedule. Michael Blount, a deputy sheriff from Sumrall, MS, will be in hot pursuit of the NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS National Championship after picking up a win in 2009.

McRee's teammate Charlie Henderson of Cottondale, AL and Ross Camponovo of Clarksdale, MS have announced their plans to run for the 2010 NeSmith Chevrolet Rookie of the Year Award.

Local favorites expected include the defending and three-time NeSmith Chevrolet Weekly Racing Series West Region Champion Lucky Keeton of Toomsuba, MS, the 2009 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS Whynot Motorsport Park Late Model Champion Randy Boyd of Marion, MS, the 2008 NeSmith Chevrolet WRS West Region Champion Jim McDuffie of Meridian, MS, and West Region top three driver Shannon Lee of Lumberton, MS.

The Drury Inn and Suites in Meridian, MS is the Official Host Hotel for the NeSmith Chevrolet Dirt Late Model Series National Tour season opener at Whynot Motorsports Park this weekend. The Drury Inn and Suites will be offering NeSmith Chevrolet DLMS fans and competitors a special discount rate.
