GREENWOOD, Neb. (September 26) - Four-time and defending O'Reilly/NCRA late model champion Kelly Boen of Henderson, Colorado put a wraps to one of the most successful seasons of any driver in the series' 39th season as he captured the annual "Cornhusker Classic" at I-80 Speedway at Nebraska Raceway Park in Greenwood, Nebraska on Saturday night. But while Boen wrapped up his eleventh Hard Rock Hotel-Casino feature of the season it was Marquette, Nebraska's Kyle Berck who came home as the 2009 O'Reilly/NCRA late model champion.  Event Images

Boen, aboard the Jay Dickens Racing Engine powered, Road Runner Fabrication, AFCO Racing Products, Intensitee Custom Racewear, Race Wise Dirt Track Chassis School, Peterson Fluid Systems, and Performance Bodies sponsored Rocket Chassis, started the feature twelfth and worked his way through the field, caught race leader Berck with two laps to go and made a slide job for the lead work to take his second career "Cornhusker Classic" title. The $3,000 victory was also his first series victory at the track since 2005. It brought an end to a record setting performance as his eleven feature wins on the tour is the most by any late model driver in the divisions 26 year history and tied former series outlaw sprint car champion Gary Wright of Hooks, Texas with the most victories in a single season.

Berck, aboard the Dorthy Lynch Salad Dressing/Strobel Construction sponsored Lazer Chassis, held on for second and also captured his second career O'Reilly/NCRA late model championship, his first since 2002.

Former series champion Al Purkey of Coffeyville, Kansas came home a strong third while hometown driver Al Humprey finished fourth with Leon Zeitner rounding out the top five.

Heat races for the forty-six car field were won by Humphrey, Greg Larsen, Mike Collins, John Anderson and Craig Preble while Allen Zeitner and Denny Woodworth took home the two "B" features.

Jason O'Brien's ten, top ten finishes out of the eighteen races held, propelled him to the O'Reilly/NCRA late model rookie of the year honors over Scott Koskovich.

This event puts a wrap on the 2009 race season for the O'Reilly/NCRA late model division.
