DONIPHAN, Neb. (July 17) - Kelly Boen of Marquette, Nebraska kicked off the opening night of the 18th annual O'Reilly/NCRA late model Nationals by virtually dominating the thirty lap Cherokee Casino-Resort feature finally Friday night as the series made their second appearance of the season at Mid-Nebraska Speedway in Doniphan, Nebraska.

Delbert Smith and Ronnie Wallace started on the front row with Wallace taking the lead as the green flag fell. Jason O'Brien quickly took over the runner up position and gave chase to the leader while behind him, Boen, who started fifth, took over the spot on lap three.

Wallace quickly opened an eight car length but that quickly evaporated as Boen took over the top spot one lap later with a pass down low coming down the front stretch.

Once out front the four-time and defending series champion worked lapped traffic to perfection and went the distance unchallenged to pick up his third feature win of the season and lapping up to the fifth place finisher.

"This track has been good to me," said an elated Boen in victory lane. "The car was decent and the race track was wonderfull. I have to thank my crew Greg Lee, Dennis Padilla and Joe Wagner as they really help me out a bunch."

Current series points leader Kyle Berck of Marquette, Nebraska worked his Lazer chassis up from his tenth starting position and into the runner up position on lap ten but couldn't catch the Boen and finished a full straightaway behind the winner. Smith settled for third with Wallace and Jason Friesen rounding out the top five. Mike Wiarda came home sixth after starting twelfth.

The four, eight lap heat races for the 35 car field were won by Boen, Jace Kaser, Friesen and Smith while Mike Collins and Wiarda took home the two "B" features.
