WHEATLAND, Mo. (April 10) - Al Purkey has taken a quick liking to his new Hatfield Powered Larry Shaw Race Car as he topped the Lucas Oil MLRA field at Lucas Oil Speedway's Season Opener for his first ever win at the 3/8ths mile Lucas Oil Speedway oval. Jeremy Payne was right on his heels to take the second spot at the stripe followed by veteran racer Kelly Boen out of Henderson, Colorado. Republic, Missouri's Brad Looney was fourth followed by GRT House Car Pilot Jack Sullivan.  Event Images

Perfect weather, big crowds, and action packed racing were the buzzwords of the day as the Lucas Oil MLRA invaded the Lucas Oil Speedway for the first time in 2010. As warm as the unseasonable April weather was for the race fans in the stands, the action on the track was even hotter as Forty-Eight MLRA Late Models jammed the pits in Wheatland, Missouri for the $3,000 to win show with 3 and 4 wide racing throughout the pack. Purkey was the class of the field up front throughout as he won heat race #1 to earn the pole position for the 30 Lap Main Event. Purkey shot to the lead on the opening lap and held off repeated challenges from Jeremy Payne. Heat Race Wins were captured by Purkey, Bill Koons, Larry Jones, Dave Eckrich, and Jeremy Payne. Raymond Merrill and John Anderson scored B-Main wins to advance to the main event.

Notes:
Purkey's Hatfield Powered Larry Shaw Race Car is owned by Nebraska Businessman Bill Koons with sponsorship support from Billy's Cafes, Purkey's Auto Salvage, Taylormade Performance, Integra Racing Shocks, Smiley's Racing Products, Duralite Racing Wheels, and VP Race Fuels. The win was Purkey's 47th career MLRA Win. The Lucas Oil MLRA returns to action on May 15th at Nevada Speedway in Nevada, Missouri followed by a spring visit to Sedalia's State Fair Speedway on May 21st and a visit to the New Thunderhill Speedway in Mayetta, Kansas on May 22nd. Memorial Day Weekend will see the MLRA teams travel back to Wheatland, Missouri for the $30,000 to win 18th Annual DART Show-Me 100 Presented by Lucas Oil Products. Galena, Missouri's Jesse Stovall won the support A-Modified Feature. Visit www.MLRAracing.com for complete details.
