(May 21) - The Memorial Day Weekend is traditionally one of the biggest racing weekends of the year with the running of the Indy 500, the Coca-Cola 600, and the O'Reilly MLRA holiday weekend special. 2008 is no exception, as The O'Reilly MLRA presented by Lucas Oil ventures north to the Cornhusker State for the 7th Annual Alphabet Soup Race at the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska on Sunday night, May 25th.
The 50 lap-$5,000 to win main event will showcase drivers from four traveling dirt late model series: the O'Reilly MLRA (Midwest Late Model Racing Association), the World Dirt Racing League (WDRL), the National Championship Racing Association (NCRA) and the Topless Outlaw Racing Association (TORA).
5-Time O'Reilly MLRA Champion Al Purkey won the 2007 edition of the Alphabet Soup race with a thrilling last lap pass over upstart Jeremy Payne. Steve Kosiski won the 2006 version with another late race pass over Henderson, Colorado's Kelly Boen.
Racing on Sunday starts at 5:55 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. Pit Gates open at 2:30 p.m. and front gate opens at 4:00 p.m. Ticket prices are $20 for adults, $12 for juniors 13-18 with ID, $2 for kids 5-12 and kids under 5 are free. Race fans can pick up $5 off adult grandstand admission coupons from their Area Dodge Dealers.
I-80 Speedway is located off I-80 at exit 420 between Omaha and Lincoln and is part of the Nebraska Raceway Park complex, which also includes the Little Sunset Speedway go-kart track and Soaring Edge Motocross Park.
