Payne was challenged early in the race by 2007 IMCA Deery Brothers Summer series Champion Jeremy Grady. Grady faded midway through the race letting Al Purkey move into second and give Payne a challenge along with last years runner up in MLRA points, David Turner. Turner got by Purkey on a restart and put the pressure on Payne for several laps until caution flew once again. On the restart Payne jumped out to the lead with Purkey getting back by David Turner. Neither Purkey or Turner was able to run Jeremy Payne down in the closing laps. Payne went on to win the first event of 2008 for MLRA. Al Purkey finished second with David Turner finishing third.
