CORONA, Calif. (April 14) - The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is saddened to learn of the passing last week of Naomi Smith's father Ezell Kirby. Naomi is the wife of National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer and Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series competitor, Freddy Smith who reside in Seymour, TN. Freddy Smith is one of most well known dirt late model racers in history. He has 782 career feature wins and is the only 5-time winner of the Dirt Track World Championship Race.

"We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mrs. Naomi Smith's father Ezell Kirby passing away. Freddy and Naomi are true ambassadors for the sport of dirt track racing. I had the chance to speak with her at a race in early March and she shared with me her personal story about her father's health situation. It was a privilege to talk with her for a few moments." said Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Director Ritchie Lewis. "We left our conversation with a prayer promise for her father and the entire family. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mrs. Naomi Smith, Freddy, Jeff and the entire family as they mourn the loss of a great man."

Freddy Smith is currently 13th in the latest Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Championship Points Standings. He was unable to attend the series' last event on Saturday Night, April 12th at Jim Nier's K-C Raceway in Chillicothe, OH due to Mr. Ezell Kirby passing. He was voted 75 hardship points by his fellow drivers and that is reflected in the latest points standings now posted at www.lucasdirt.com.
