TUCSON, Ariz. (February 18) - Nick Bartels charged from his 10th place starting position to win an exciting race for the opener of the 2011 Copper on Dirt. Lonnie Parker jr. got a quick jump from his front row spot and rode the cushion around the top to hold a slim lead over a fast changing field behind him. Steve Drake was seemingly stalking Lonnie from 3rd as a strong running Mike Kirby running up front clipped an infield tire. No serious damage was done, but it ended Mike's night early. Joey Moriarty was coming to the front with Clay Daly. Daly on the bottom and Moriarty on the top. Unfortunately for Moriarty something went through his radiator bringing his fine run to an end. Daly however was not finished yet. Steve Drake was now in the lead and Clay was pressuring him all the way around the track. Lonnie was running a good race but he could not hold back a fast moving Nick Bartel. Nick seemingly could put his car anywhere on the track as he picked off one car after another. Steve Drake and Nick put on an exciting battle up front for the lead at this point, swapping it back and forth several times. After several laps swapping the lead, Nick found the speed he needed to put a couple car lengths between himself and Drake. Steve searching hard for a way to catch Nick was then passed by a very fast Clay Daly. That is how they finished with Nick taking home the win, Clay Daly was second, Steve Drake, Lonnie Parker Jr., and Dean Moore completed the top five. Heat races earlier in the night were won by Mike Kirby, Dean Moore and Mark Carrel.

Albuquerque's Johnny Herrera emerged from a spirited duel with 2009 series champion Shane Stewart to snare his first Lucas Oil ASCS presented by K&N Filters National win of the year.

Kyle Larson dominated the 20-Lap Midget feature in his maiden voyage aboard the Keith Kunz Toyota powered Bullet staying ahead of a fierce battle for the runner up spot. RJ Johnson used lapped traffic to slide past Steve Buckwalter and secured his spot on the podium with Buckwalter settling for the show position.

Holly Jones became the first USRA Western Modified winner as she narrowly held off her father Royal Jones in the 25-Lap Modified feature marking her first USA Raceway win. Royal was followed to the line by Phoenix racer Ricky Thornton Jr. who drove from the twelve starting spot to earn the final spot on the podium with Christy Georges finishing fourth and locking her into the Saturday night finale.
