MILDURA, Victoria (January 22) - Western Australia's Brad Blake has won the 10th Australian Late Model Championship held at Mildura's The Edge Hotel Motel Timmis Speedway (Victoria) Sunday January 23. Blake, driving the Marc Zimmer owned #0 Rocket, lead from flag to flag in the 40 lap title race. It was the fourth time Blake has won the Australian title in the division.
Queenslands Blair Granger finished second, with South Australia's Mat Crimmins third.
Blake dominated racing over the two nights, winning two of his three Heats, and finishing second in the other. He then won the A Dash to start off pole in the Main, and the rest, as they say in the classics, is history.
A multi car pileup at the start of the race eliminated several cars including Nathan Disney, one of the event favourites.
Blake had to withstand a strong challenge from Western Australia's Brad Ludlow nearing half distance, as Ludlow had powered around the high line to move up from 10th to be right on the leaders rear bumper. A miscue by Ludlow saw him hit the wall and his night was over.
New South Welshman Darryl Grimson ran second for most of the journey but was forced out of the race with two laps remaining when the left rear tyre went flat.
25 cars contested the title, representing all states currently running the division.
