Steve Hixson CLEVELAND, Tenn. (March 19) - Jake Knowles (# 66) of Tyrone, Georgia took an impressive flag to flag victory away from the Cleveland (TN) Speedway, Saturday night. Making the switch during the off-season, the former (5+years) MasterSbilt pilot, is in a new Rocket chassis and seems to have not missed a beat. In only his third event of the 2011 season, the former TOP TRACKS CHALLENGE SERIES champion, put his JKR yellow/blue # 66 "South African: Okavango Park Motors, GW Performance, Austin Trucking, Hoosier Tire South, VP Racing Fuels, Cruise w/ Champions" sponsored Late Model in Victory Lane after leading all 30 laps of the "A" Main event. "Cleveland's our home-away from home..." stated Jake after the race. "Monty's (Morrow) been one of my strongest supporters all my racing career and to get my first win here at his place with my new racing team means alot." Knowles continued with comments regarding the race itself, talking of how traffic slowed his progress, which allowed his competitors to close towards the end of the race.
Knowles, 25, raced to a Crate LM series championship and a huge LUCAS OIL series victory (at Cleveland 09') with Monty Morrow Racing from 2006-2010 after beginning his career in the Cruiser divisions at Dixie and Rome Speedway in 2001. Saturday night his raceteam topped all but John Owenby (a former Cleveland Track Champion) in qualifying and went on to earng the outside FRONT ROW JOE starting position, by winning the 2nd of 3 heat races. Knowles took the lead at the start and never looked back for his first win in 2011. The JKR team even survived a POST-RACE protest of the motor to solidify the victory. On Friday Knowles was strong as competition heated up at Boyd's Speedway in the Steel-Head LM division, but mechanical problems would end the teams run with a dismal last place finish. Fans of JKR can follow the team online at www.JAKEKNOWLES.com or on his facebook page.
