Harlan Osborne PETALUMA, Calif. (August 21) - Defending Petaluma Speedway Late Model champion John Silva of Fremont, who's been having a less than stellar season, appeared to have found a cure for his recent problems as the two-time track champion held off a determined challenge by Anthony Restad to post his first victory of the year and 33rd of his career at Petaluma Speedway. "It was a good night, we are happy," said Silva. The victory came at a good time for Silva as the Late Models have one points race left before the Speedway hosts the 31st annual M. Maselli & Sons Late Model Classic on September 18.
All-Pro points leader Jeff Decker started the 11-car feature in seventh place and managed to climb to fourth, behind Silva, Restad, and Richard Papenhausen, before the finish. Front row starters Restad and Papenhausen waged a fierce battle for second place behind Silva with Papenhausen holding the edge until Lap 11 when Restad dipped under the Chico driver in Turn 4 and grabbed the runner-up spot and holding it to the finish to record his third second place finish of the season. Rounding out the top 10 was fifth place Rod Arnold, followed by Rick Shafer, Randy Shafer, Dennis Souza, Matt Michelli, and Steve Johnson.
