Steve Hixson ROME, Ga. (September 5) - Witnessing one of the largest crowds ever Sunday night, Flat Rock Alabama racer Robert Gant won the ROME BOSS event at the Rome (GA) Speedway and its $3,000 first place prize. Starting 4th, the # 22 "Carl Gregory Ford, White's Logging" sponsored Ford Fusion racer inherited the lead when Ronnie Johnson (of Chattanooga, TN) had a flat right rear halfway through the 40 lap feature. Fellow Alabamian Bo Shirley rallied from deep in the starting field to finish second as Chatsworth GA's Derek Ellis held off a resurgent RJ for the third place position. Council Bluff Iowa's Mike Collins rounded out the Top 5. Fast qualifier of the 23-car field was Jake Knowles who would finish just outside the Top 5 unofficially. In the U.S.C.S Sprint-Car Special event Memphis, TN's Terry Gray (aka. THE ORIGINAL OUTLAW) took the 30-lap feature over GA's Matt Linger, Eric Riggins Jr., Saturday nights (Lavonia, GA winner) Danny Martin and C.J. Miller. The final 2010 event for Rome Speedway is coming up a month from now, when the LUCAS OIL DIRT SERIES invades the track for a $10,000 to-WIN SLM Sunday nighter, October 10th.
