Todd Fisher NEWBERRYTOWN, Penn. (October 2) - Dover's Gene Knaub won the 50-lap Cumberland Truck Parts Late Model feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park on Saturday night. Miller collected $3,000 for his win, but failed to choose the correct two envelopes for the $25,000 bonus. Knaub opened up the first envelope that did contain the correct half of the $25,000 prize, but car owner Donnie Broderick did not have the correct second half in his envelope. This was the closest any driver has come to winning the $25,000 in five years.
Pole sitter, Justin Ehrhart grabbed the lead from the start with Grant Adams in hot pursuit during the early stages of the 50 lapper. Adams bolted by Ehrhart on the third circuit using the top side of the finely prepared surface by track preparer Bobby Weaver. A caution on lap four for three spinning cars in turn two slowed the field. On the restart, Ehrhart pressured Adams on the low side, but Knaub followed Adams and made the pass by Ehrhart entering turn 1. One lap later Knaub took command of the top spot and never looked back to claim the 50 lap main event in one of the most talented field of Late Model drivers to ever compete at SSP.
Throughout the middle stages of the race, the battle for second was wild and furious. Adams, Ehrhart, Travis Mease, Shaun Jones and Craig Wagaman all made challenges for the runner-up spot. Wagaman held onto the runner-up spot from the middle of the race to lap 42. Wagaman came from a 19th place starting spot and took over the second place spot on lap 25. Justin Ehrhart rebounded to reclaim the runner-up spot from Wagaman to finish there at the end. Shaun Jones made a last lap pass to claim third over Wagaman. Adams rounded out the top five. Mease, Ashley Barrett, Roy Miller, Rick Singleton and Larry Baer finished sixth through tenth respectively.
Craig Wagaman was awarded the "HTMA Hard Charger Award" by picking up 15 positions to finish 4th after starting at the 19th spot.
In other action on Saturday night, the Super Sportsman Tour Race (presented by Chaparral Hunting Adventures and Blazer's Body Shop) was won by Carmen Perigo Jr. and Dave Brouse won the 20-lap Pro Stocks.
Ron Kline won the B-Main event for the Late Models. The Late Model Tire Changing Contest presented by Miller's Racing Parts was won by the crew of Ashley Barrett.
On Friday night, Brian Lefebvre won the 25-lap Road Warrior World Championship presented by JKS Services, Automotive Recycling and Towing. Daryl Sipe won the 25-lap Susquehanna Recyclers Mini Van World Championship. In Late Model action, heat race wins went to Justin Ehrhart, Ashley Barrett, Grant Adams and Gene Knaub. The Hammaker's Racing Engine 6-lap Cash Dash was won by Ehrhart, earning him $250.00, the pole position for the 50 lapper and a delicious 6' sub from Rock-It Pizza and Subs.
