PITTSBURGH, Penn. (September 11) - Sarver PA's John Garvin drove to a career first PPMS Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic DIRTcar Super Late Model win in the rained out feature from August 14 on Saturday night. Brandon Burgoon and Jim Lepro brought the field down for the start of the 25 lap main. Burgoon grabbed the lead at the outset and was pulling away when the first caution appeared for slowed car of 2010 track champion Mike Johnson who had his engine let loose. Burgoon opened up a lead on the restart with John Flinner coming up from 10th moving into second. On lap 8 the caution came out again, this time for Jim Stephans who slowed with a broken lower left ball joint. On the restart Burgoon again opened up a large lead again with Flinner in second and 5th starting John Garvin now in third and Mike Norris in fourth. Norris slowed the next lap with his nose rolled under and pitted. By half way Burgoon opened up a commanding lead and it looked as if he was going to win in a run a way. Things changed for him on lap 17 when he slowed and pitted after his oil pressure started to fluctuate. This put John Flinner in the lead, and he was looking for his second win in a row. Flinner had a lead over Garvin, who in turn was battling with Jason Rider for second and with Jim Lepro and Ben Miley battling for fourth. On lap 23 Flinner's run came to an end when his engine let loose and he retired to the pits. This left Garvin and Rider to battle it out the last two laps. At the finish it was Garvin, Rider, Ben Miley, Lepro, Doug Crawford, Flinner, Burgoon, Chuck Medved, Norris and Stephans trailing. Thirteen of the seventeen original starters were back in the pits for the makeup, with twelve answering the call for the start. Daryl Charlier ran into motor problems in hot laps and did not start, with Steve Baker (who was at Eldora representing Rocket Chassis), Jared Miley, John Mollick, and Lance Elson not returning. Seventeen cars were also on hand for the regular show, with John Flinner (who rolled out a backup car along with Mike Johnson) winning the first heat, with the second just coming out on the track when the rains hit. Mike Johnson won the 2010 track championship by just starting the night's events, over Ben Miley, Jason Rider and Steve Baker. It was the first ever track championship for Johnson in the Super Lates, and his fourth overall at PPMS (he won 3 in the Crate/Limited Late class). He also joined his brother Davey, who won the championship in 1986, to become the first brothers to win the points in the Super Lates. The fast track allowed Brandon Burgoon to turn a lap of 17:658, 127.42 MPH.

The Sunoco Race Fuels DIRTcar Cadet Sportsman rained out feature from August 14 saw Finleyville PA's Craig Koteles win his second feature of the season. Outside pole sitter Dave McManus grabbed the lead at the start, with Gary Koteles moving into second at the start. Koteles battled with McManus for the lead, until just past halfway when Koteles started smoking and slowed with transmission problems. This put Craig Koteles in second, and McManus had a good lead over him. McManus looked as if he was going to win his second feature in a row, but that changed on the white flag lap when his engine let loose and he stopped in three and four. On the restart Craig Koteles out jumped Joe Koteles for the lead for the green/white/checker finish. Nick Kocuba got past Joe Koteles for second at the end, with Jake Simmons, Pat Weldon, Mike Harris (in the Jennifer Barker #33), Josh Langer, Jesse Gould, Tyler Fox and Gary Koteles. Jake Simmons won the 2010 track championship, his second at PPMS. The Cadet heats were rained out.

The Brougher's Machine Shop Fastrak Crate Late Model heats saw Josh Holtgraver and Justin Lamb win the heats, with Mark Moats Jr. winning the 2010 track championship. It was his first ever championship, and was the closest of the 6 divisions winning by just a scant 11 points over Laura Lukon. The odd item is neither front runner won a feature, the first time in PPMS history this has happened in any class, but used consistent finishes to lead the standings.

In the Miley RV Service UMP Modifieds, the heats fell to J.E. Stalder and Chris Basich. Daryl Charlier won the 2010 championship, his second in a row.

The Miley BP Car Wash DIRTcar Hobby Stocks saw Brian Huchko win his first ever championship winning 11 features along the way.

Daniel White won the championship in the Imperial Heights Garage Young Gun DIRTcar Sports Compact division winning 6 features along the way.

Rain checks for tonight's program can be used for next week's Pittsburgher by just adding the difference in the ticket price.
