Michael Despain JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (September 3) - The Indiana Late Model Series would visit Ponderosa Speedway for the third time this season on Friday evening and Zac Blackwood of Columbus, IN would inherit the Indiana Late Model Series win after apparent winner Todd Coffman was disqualified for not meeting the minimum weight requirement in post-race inspection. Other feature event winners included David Webb of Nicholasville, KY in Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Models, Jeremy Hines of Seymour, IN in D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman, Jason Wheatley of Loretto, KY in Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds, Shane Lafollette of Hodgenville, KY in Street Stocks, and David Barron of Eubank, KY in Front Wheel Drives.
John Mulligan would lead the opening circuit of the Indiana Late Model Series main event before Todd Coffman would take the lead on lap 2. Greg Kendall would draw the first caution of the race on lap 4 after stopping in turn two. Coffman would lead on the restart, with Zac Blackwood going to second, followed by Mulligan, P.J. Feistritzer, and Gary Yeager. Feistritzer would take third on lap 5, as the second caution of the race flew on lap 8 when Josh Hampton slowed in turn two. The restart would see Feistritzer take second momentarily, only to lose it one trip later back to Blackwood. The front five would remain the same until lap 17 when the caution flew for sixth place running Clarence Belcher, who had stopped in turn two with a flat right-rear tire. Coffman would remain on the point on the restart, with Feistritzer again taking second, only to have Blackwood retake the spot again on lap 19. The front five would again remain the same, with Blackwood pressuring Coffman for the top spot until the final caution flew on lap 26 when Jeff Rawlings spun his mount in turn one. The restart would see Joe Godsey scoot past Yeager for fifth on lap 27, while Coffman would take the checkered flag first, only to be disqualified in post-race inspection for being too light at the scales. This would give Blackwood the win in his Blackwood Lawn and Landscape/Lucas Oil/ DMB Embroidery/Kevin's Pool Service/Dirt-B-Gone/M. Hobbs/Weller Roofing/Mike Burton/Travis Kern Race Engines/Carpet Mania/C&R Inc. sponsored #93 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, GM604 powered unit. Completing the top five would then be Feistritzer, Mulligan, 11th starting Joe Godsey, and Jeff Johnson. The remainder of the top ten would be 20th starting Steve Godsey, Alan Magner, Edgar Godsey, Yeager, and 19th starting Lindsey Wade. Dusty Maybrier would be the top qualifier among 22 entries at 14.235 seconds, while heat wins went to Mulligan, Coffman, and Greg Kendall.
The 25 lap Good Neighbor Pharmacy Super Late Model feature event would get off to a bit of a rocky start after cautions on the initial starts for Joey Daniel and Daniel Hatcher, but action finally went green for good, David Webb would pull out to the race lead as he and Victor Lee would distance themselves from the field, with Webb pulling away from Lee in the late stages of the event to score his third win of the season at Ponderosa Speedway. Webb's winning mount is owned by David and John Webb and carries sponsorship from ORS Auto Body and Collison/Marine Works/JDB Contracting/Eagle One/Valvoline Oil/Salyer's Auto Salvage, with the car being a Killer Chassis. Lee would take second, followed by Skylar Marlar, Michael Chilton, and Joey Daniel. Webb would also be the top qualifier among 10 entries at 13.532 seconds, while also winning his heat, with Lee winning the other heat.
The 25 lap, $1,000 to win D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman feature event would be the Jeremy Hines and Randy Petro, with Hines notching the win and the big payday aboard the Jeff Martin owned Century 21 by Stacy Beasley/George's of Seymour/ Stuckwitch Appliance/Niebel Race Engines/Gumm Chassis/Fraternal Order of Eagles #655 sponsored #15 machine. Petro would claim second, with 7th starting Billy Meredith taking third. Rick King would recover from an early race spin to finish fourth, while Bobby Carrier, Jr. would complete the top five. Petro was top qualifier in time trials among 13 entries with a new track record lap at 15.875 seconds and also won the dash, while Meredith won the heat.
The 20 lap Clayton Homes UMP Modified main event would see Jason Wheatley continue his late-season surge at Ponderosa Speedway as the second-generation racer would score his fifth win of the season in open-wheel action behind the wheel of the Kaylee and Tommy Wheatley owned St. Joe Garage/VFM Manufacturing/Mark Martin Chevrolet/Wheatley Tile Flooring/Wheatley Seamless Gutters/Wheatley Auto Sales/ Brian Wheatley Landscaping/Brady Excavating/Gootee and Mattingly Heating and Cooling/Central Kentucky Electrical and Plumbing/Cozy Corner/Rosewood Golf Course/ Nukem Graphics/Springfield Auto and Farm/TSM Shocks sponsored #7 Larry Shaw by Landers Race Car, Mullins Race Engines mount. Michael England would take second, followed by J.T. Ayers, Mike Bechelli, and Rocky Wilson, who would nip Adam Cole in a photo-finish for fifth. Wheatley would be top qualifier among 10 entries at 15.001 seconds, with heat wins going to Wheatley and Ayers.
Street Stocks would return to Ponderosa Speedway and Shane Lafollette would take the win in the David Copley owned Geneva's Florist/K&K Flower Shop/Larue Insurance/ Advance Auto Parts/Rock's Tobacco/Select Designs/Henry Miller #1 U.K. Fan sponsored #63 Ford Thunderbird over Johnny King. Lafollette would also win the heat.
The Front Wheel Drive division also returned and David Barron of Eubank, KY would claim the division's feature race event in the seat of his Science Hill Meat Shop sponsored #11 machine. The rest of the finishing order would be William Collett, Billy Irvin, Ryan Durham, and Michael Coleman. Barron would also win the heat.
