NEWBERRYTOWN, Penn. (July 24) - On the hottest summer night this season and under the light of a full moon, Dover's Gene Knaub won the 20-lap Late Model feature event at the Susquehanna Speedway Park. Once again on a superbly prepared track by Bobby Weaver, the track provided plenty of side-by-side action throughout the evening. Bob Scott Jr. of Felton won his second straight 20-lap Street Stock feature event. Donnie Broderick of Lancaster was declared the winner of the 20-lap Xtreme Stock Car feature event when Mike Zeigler Jr. came across the line ahead but was disqualified in post race tech when his car was protested by another competitor. Patrick McClane of of York claimed his fourth XSC Elite feature race of the year. Mike Wallace led all twenty laps of the Classic Car main event and Christopher Holland of Pine Grove won the 15-lap Road Warrior feature race.

The Late Model feature event began with a caution flag when Todd Leonard spun before the field could completely return to the start/finish line. On the next restart, Randy Christine Jr. took the lead with Justin Ehrhart quickly jumping into the runner-up spot after starting sixth. Ehrhart used the high line to then power past Christine for the lead, who was utilizing the bottom line. However, before Ehrhart could return the the start/finish line, the caution flag flew once again, putting Christine back into the lead. A wise Christine then moved up to the top side of the track to hold Ehahart at bay on the restart.

In the meantime, Dover's Gene Knaub methodically moved his way from a ninth place starting spot into third place behind the leaders on lap 7. On lap 8, Knaub moved to the low side as Ehrhart left rear tire began to go flat. Once again on lap nine the caution flew again. On the restart, Knaub powered by Christine on the top side and never really looked back. Another caution on lap 11 allowed Christine one more shot at Knaub, but could not mount a challenge. The remainder of the event went non-stop with Knaub winning the race over Christine and Jake Jones. Carl Billet, the all-time career feature win leader for any division at SSP finished fourth. Chris Knopp finished fifth, but was disqualified for failing to report to tech. Larry Baer was awarded fifth.

In victory lane, Knaub was esthetic as he said, "This was a lot of fun tonight as it was a great surface to race on. It was one of the best tracks he's been on this season." Heat race wins went to Christine, Tommy Slanker and John Moser.
