BURDETTE BLASTS TO AMRA LATE MODEL WIN ON FULL MOON NIGHTAT SKYLINE SPEEDWAY

STEWART, Ohio (July 23) - It was a typical full-moon night, when the "lunacy" of the lunar illumination made for some crazy action both on and off the track. Skyline Speedway was not spared from the full-moon as a race-long battle between Chris Carpenter, Jeff Burdette, and Chris Garnes in the AMRA Late Models went right down to the wire with Parkersburg's Burdette winning in a wild last lap melee. Chillicothe, Ohio's Josh Davis pulled off the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association main, Andy Bond claimed the AMRA Modified feature, while Ryan Wilson and Tommy Adkins were repeats in the Pure Stocks and Four Cylinder's respectively. Will Holland captured the Mini-wedge feature.

Jeff Burdette and Tony Roush paced the 18 car AMRA Late Model field to the start line with Roush leading the first five circuits before Parkersburg's Chris Carpenter took over on lap six. The top six cars of Carpenter, Roush, Burdette, Garnes, K.C. Burdette, and Scott Wolfe were all within striking distance of a run to the front. Roush held second until Burdette took the runner-up slot on lap twelve. Tyler Carpenter in the Bub Crum Rocket blasted into fifth about the same time, while two laps later Travis Brookover-the hard charger-- moved by Wolfe for sixth.

The top eight cars were all in line for a run at the checkered. Carpenter held off the charges of Burdette and Garnes lap after lap. Coming down for the checkered, rookie driver Jarod Circle in his first feature-start-ever was collected by Carpenter. The impact opened up a path to victory for Burdette who rode around the spinning Circle for the win. Carpenter recovered for second with Garnes, Tony Roush, Tyler Carpenter, Travis Brookover, Scott Wolfe, Justin Powell, Andy Bond, and Jason Brookover rounding out the top ten. Travis Brookover came from 11th to sixth for hard-charger honors.

In the wake of the wild finish that put Burdette in victory lane, a major scuffle erupted in the Circle pit adding more fuel to an already exciting night. At press time a controversial call relegated K.C. Burdette to the tail. Burdette ran in the top five most of the night and a post-race discussion may have reinstated the young charger to a top ten slot to be announced later.
