McKean County Raceway E. SMETHSPORT, Penn. (July 1) - Franklin, Pennsylvania's, Matt Lux captured his second win of the year at McKean County Raceway with his second career Northern Tier Inc. United Late Model Series event in the Ned Gleason Memorial. Lux went back home with the $4500 prize money and over $500 in lap money making his night a very profitable evening. Other winners were Randy Hall, David Scott, Andy Michael, Doyle Harris Jr. and Blaine Krott.
Lux would start the event from pole position and immediately jumped into the lead over Chris Hackett. Lux immediately was setting a fast pace as Gregg Satterlee moved into second on lap three before the yellow lights came on for Brent Rhebergen. Lux chose the outside lane for the restart and again just powered away from the field as Satterlee sat in second with Mike Knight now moving into third, when Dennis Lunger broke a wheel and spun sideways only to be collected by Rhebergen, ending both of their nights and the 3rd place car in ULMS points of Lunger going off the track on a flatbed. Lux again chose the outside lane over Satterlee and just again powered into the lead with Hackett getting third back from Knight. Satterlee kept the pressure on Lux as the two opened daylight over Hackett and Knight. With ten laps in the books it was Lux still over Satterlee, Hackett, Knight and David Scott now up to fifth.
Dick Barton would crack the top five on the eleventh lap in the #14B Rocket. As Satterlee was fending off the challenges of Mike Knight for second, he would come to a quick stop in turn four bringing out the yellow again and relinquishing second to Knight. The top five now were Lux still your leader with Knight in second with Hackett, Close and Greg Oakes in fifth. Lux again had a text book restart but, Knight would stay with him keeping the pressure on as the laps clicked off and David Scott now back in fifth again on lap fifteen. The car on the move was Boom Briggs he would jump into fifth on lap nineteen behind the #04 of Bob Close. Mike Knight would make a beautiful slide job on Lux for the lead on lap twenty two as the leaders entered lap traffic but he would only see the lead for two laps before his #9k pulled up to a stop in turn three ending his night and giving the lead back to Lux. Hackett was back to second with Briggs now in third followed by David Scott and Close. The restart was wild as Lux seemed to be in control as the battle was for second between Hackett and Briggs. The duo would battle till lap 28 as Briggs was vying for the second position and slight contact was made between the two cars and they both went spinning in front of the field. Hackett would come to a complete stop while Briggs remarkably kept his car rolling thru a wild 360 as the yellow lights flashed. With Hackett being the only car sitting still, he would be charged with the yellow and the lap was scored with Lux still your leader while David Scott and Bob Close would be scored second and third with Boom Briggs and Barton now in fifth. Lux controlled the start again masterfully, but David Scott kept his #3 SlowRide machine on the rear bumper of Lux's Mastersbilt chassis. Lux would pull away a by a car length or two on the last lap and half to win his second win of the year at McKean Co. Raceway and his second career ULMS win along with over $5000 in prize money. David Scott was second followed by Bob Close, Boom Briggs and Dick Barton. Chad Valone, Dan Stone, Greg Oakes, John Lobb and Doug Eck rounded out the top ten finishers.
The Maynards Electric FASTRAK Late Model feature rolled onto the facility with defending track point champion, John Lacki on the front row. Lacki would get the initial jump at the start with young Damien Bidwell in tow. David Scott in the Bullitt Chassis house car would move into the second position on the second lap with Jim Frank in third. With five laps in the books, Lacki was still your leader with Scott in second for the second straight race still challenging for the lead. Justin Tatlow would move into fourth on lap sixth as Bidwell nipped Brent Rhebergen at the line for fifth. Jim Frank would go to the pits on lap nine relinquishing third to Tatlow as Rhebergen was now in fourth ahead of Bidwell. As lap thirteen clicked off the board the top two cars entered lap traffic and David Scott would use it to his advantage to get around Lacki to take the lead over on lap fourteen. With five remaining it was Scott with a slim lead over Lacki followed by FASTRAK rookie, Justin Tatlow, Rhebergen and Kyle Zimmerman now in fifth ahead of Steve Dixon. Rhebergen would take over third on lap twenty one as Tatlow would slide backwards as Dixon would take fourth on the next lap and Zimmerman would regain fifth on lap later. With two to go Scott was able to keep Lacki behind him to capture the $750 win. Following Scott and Lacki was Rhebergen who was driving the Bill Law #7B. Dixon was fourth followed by Zimmerman, John Haggerty, Jamie Brown, Adam Sixt, Matt Cobb and Tim Schram rounded out the top ten.
