Penn Can Speedway
SUSQUEHANNA, Penn. (June 18) - On a beautiful night for racing Mike Nagel Sr of Susquehanna ended an almost twelve year drought to win his first modified feature since May 22, 1998. The popular victory came in front of a large crowd of hometown fans cheering the revitalized second generation racer on Cosmello's Auto Parts night. Ben Whitaker of Carbondale straightened out early season problems in his late model and held off hard charging Dave Zona and Tracy Gregory for the $1000 win. Connecticut's Mike Sabia won for the first time in a thrilling crate sportsman feature holding off Grant Hilfiger and Mike Nagel Jr to get the victory. In the S&W Awards street stocks Shane Wolf Sr continued his hot streak to win for the second week in a row with Klem Underwood doing the same in the four cylinders.

Ben Whitaker has struggled to find the handle on his potent late model most of the early season. On this night Whitaker took the early lead ahead of Steve Deinhardt, Jim O'Hara, Tracy Gregory, and Dave Zona. The first caution on lap eight wiped out a large lead and brought the field together. On the restart Whitaker continued to lead the way with Deinhardt, O'Hara, and Zona close behind. Zona was the man on the move taking his car to the outside of the track to get by O'Hara and Deinhardt to move to second behind Whitaker. A few laps later Gregory made the same move to climb into third. With Zona and Gregory challenging the young Whitaker, caution came out for the final time on lap twenty two. This set up a three lap dash for the flag with Whitaker holding strong to claim his first win of the season in the Diaz Forest Products late models. Zona, Gregory, Deinahrdt and O'Hara rounded out the top five.
