Jack Walbring QUINCY, Ill. (October 3) - Vance Wilson, Jim Black, Terry Houston and Phil Heavelow all captured feature event victories during the final race event at Quincy Raceways for the 2010 season.
Wilson took the lead of the Budweiser Late Model Shootout at the drop of the green flag and held off Jason Perry to claim his first win in a Late Model at Quincy Raceways. Perry made a furious charge over the final laps but had to settle for the second spot by a mere .115 of a second. Evan Fink drove his UMP Crate Late Model to the third position ahead of Denny Woodworth in fourth and Robby Warner in fifth. Wilson and Woodworth took the heat race wins with Robby Warner claiming the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.
Jim Black of Bonne Terre, Mo. jumped grabbed the lead of the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event at the drop of the green flag and held off David Wietholder to claim his first feature win at Quincy. Wietholder scored second ahead of Robbie Reed in third, Gary Wilson in fourth and Shawn Deering in fifth. Robbie Reed and Devin Gilpin of Columbus Indiana scored the heat race wins with Black also getting the win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash.
Terry Houston used his IMCA Stock Car to dominate the combined Hobby Stock and Stock Car main event. Houston charged into the lead early in the race and was never seriously challenged on the way to the checkered flag. Wes Mayfield scored second followed by Jerry Jansen in third, Jim Lynch in fourth and Rob Wilsey in fifth. Houston and Jansen took the heat race wins. Phil Heavelow of Buckner, Mo. took of at the drop of the green flag in the ILMO Lightning Mini Sprint State Championship and was never threatened in taking the feature event win. Beau Heavelow of Independence, Mo. scored second ahead of Austin Archdale of Brimfield in third, Shane Morgan of Creve Couer in fourth and Brennan Gregory of Pekin in fifth. Phil Heavelow and Austin Archdale were the heat race winners.
The October 3 event puts the cap on the 2010 racing season at Quincy Raceways as the extended season will come to a close without running the scheduled October 10 event. The next event for Quincy Raceways will be the 2010 Track Awards Party yet to be scheduled sometime in late January or early February. Quincy Raceways Co-owner Paul Holtschlag says that Quincy Raceways will operate for the 2011 race season and for many more seasons after that.
