George Baumann PLYMOUTH, Wisc. (July 17) - Fifties Night at the races brought out a lot of classic cars, 50's music, and plenty of exciting racing for the fans. The Milwaukee Stock Car Vintage Modifieds looked and sounded as good as ever.
Tim Buhler (Glenbuelah) won the Late Model A-main, while in the other divisions, John Dirks (Elkhart Lake) won the Grand National Feature, Kurt Davis (West Allis) in the Sprints, Sean Mueller (Plymouth) the Outlaw Compacts, and John Fahl the Vintage Modifieds.
Buhler's Feature win was his first on the Fair Park oval and came after he passed Brad Mueller (Random Lake) on the outside on lap fourteen. Buhler and Craig Schueffner (Sheboygan Falls) raced each other hard for the second position early in the race before Buhler took charge.
Russ Scheffler (Waukesha) after starting eleventh, found the high side of the track to his liking, and steadily moved forward taking second on lap nineteen. Buhler, however, was fast and would not be caught.
Point's leader Rick Scheffler (Waukesha) continued his fine season coming from thirteenth to finish fifth. Mueller finished third with Ted Dolhun Sr. (Franklin) fourth. The race was stopped on lap nine when a car stopped on the track; otherwise the race was green and fast.
