Bill Nelson SPRING VALLEY, Minn. (June 19) - After a two week rain hiatus the Deer Creek Speedway and Button Buck Speedway sprang into action with a large field of cars and exciting racing action in all classes.
A very strong field of nineteen Altenburg Construction WISSOTA Late Models pulled onto the track for their feature event with Jordan Yaggy taking the early lead followed closely by Doug Herrick. Kyle Jumbeck quickly worked into third while Jake Hartung moved into fourth. With three completed Herrick worked under Yaggy to take over the top spot while Nick Herrick, Jerry Bloom and Brad Waits ran three wide for fifth.. With five completed Waits took control of the fifth spot while Doug Herrick slowly pulled away from the field. With twelve complete the waved slowing the field down. On the restart Herrick again led with Jumbeck taking over second from Yaggy. On the next lap Hartung worked past Yaggy for third as the laps wound down. Another restart bunched the field up with seventeen down. Hartung and Jumbeck worked on Herrick on the restart making it a three wide race through turn four for the lead. Herrick kept the slight edge as Hartung eventually took over second. Herrick cruised the rest of the way home for his second win of the season.
An absolutely incredible field of 36 EZ Fabricating USRA Modifieds graced the speedway on this Saturday night with many heavy hitters and some long distance travelers making their way to the speedway. Shane Herbert from Lafayette Louisiana led the first lap of the event with Derek Ramirez in second. Todd Scharkey moved up to race with Ramirez on lap two with Jason Krohn close in fourth. With four down Scharkey took over second but on the next lap Ramirez worked back into the spot. The first caution of the event flew with four completed Herbert moved back out front on the restart with Krohn working under Ramirez for third as Scharkey held onto second. On the next lap Krohn started challenging Scharkey for second while Tim Donlinger caught Ramirez and tried getting around him for fourth. Donlinger took the spot and with nine laps down moved under Krohn for the third spot. With ten completed Donlinger and Scharkey were side by side for second. Further back Jason Cummins worked into the top five. On lap thirteen Donlinger cleared Scharkey for second as another caution flew on lap fifteen eliminating Herbert's half straight lead. On the restart Herbert led with Donlinger in second. Cummins sneaked around Scharkey for the third spot. With nineteen down Donlinger started pressuring Herbert for the lead. As lap twenty completed Donlinger led with Cummins now working under Herbert for second. A the finish it was Donlinger, Cummins and Herbert.
Ryan Siegle led from the drop of the green flag in the US Army WISSOTA Super Stock feature event with Dave Solum in second. Tony Bloom and Chuck Nerland raced for third early until Nerland took control of the spot. On lap three Nerland moved under Solum for the second spot. Solum then got challenged by Bloom and Jeff Brauer as they went three wide for third. The caution flew on lap five and on the restart Siegle led with Brauer working into second. Cole Queensland used the restart to jump into third ahead of Bloom. With eight completed the top 3 ran nose to tail around the speedway. Brauer started working low on Siegle for the lead. Brauer pulled alongside a couple times and as he continued to put pressure on the leader Siegle moved down slightly to block his line allowing Queensland to drive around the two of them on the high side to take over the lead. On lap twelve Siegle pushed up in four allowing Brauer to work past him into second. Brauer worked low on Queensland for the remaining laps but was unable to make a pass for the win.
Ric Fynbo led the early laps of the Dirt Doctor Trucking WISSOTA Midwest Modified race with Jared Boumeester in second early on. Dustin Scott and Jared Happel raced for third. The Boumeester machine faltered and slowed but was able to get moving again after dropping through the field moving Scott up to second. Brandon Davis started marching forward working past Happel for third on lap three while Mike Paulson, Jerry Young and Bryan Hernandez were three wide for fifth. The first caution of the night flew on lap four and on the restart Scott and Davis were all over Fynbo for the lead. Just as the battle heated up another caution flew. On the restart the front runners were three wide for the lead with Davis taking the lead on the next lap. Another restart with six down saw Davis leading, Scott in second while Hernandez worked past Fynbo for third. Another caution with eight down saw Davis lead with Hernandez working into second. Jason Born worked around Young for the fourth spot as the field finally stayed green. Hernandez slowly started gaining on Davis up front but was not able to get close enough to get around him for the lead. Davis came home with the win, Hernandez and Scott round out the top three.
Mike Jaeger led lap one of the Hinz Trucking USRA B-Modified feature with Parker Hale in second and Jacob Bleess in third. Hale moved past Jaeger exiting turn four on the completion of lap two while Jason Schlangen quickly worked up to third racing with Ben Moudry for the spot. With five down Hale continued to stay out front with a really tight pack directly behind him racing for position. Schlangen moved into second with Dan Tenold and Jaeger side by side for third. Tenold took the spot with eight completed. A restart on lap ten saw Hale leading again with Jaeger, Tenold and Colter Deutsch racing for third. Schlangen started pressuring Hale for the lead and they race side by side for a lap until Deutsch joined them for a three wide race. Deutsch took the spot with fourteen completed. On lap fifteen Scott Demmer moved into the top five and then with seventeen down rolled past Jaeger and Schlangen to take over second. Demmer was flying up top now and coming out of four pulled alongside of Duetsch to take the win by .005 seconds in an incredible side by side finish.
Dan Holland led out of two for the BP WISSOTA Street Stocks with Mike Blowers in second and Ryan Goergen in third. Goergen moved under Blowers for second on lap two and was pressuring Holland for the lead as the caution waved. ON the restart Holland led with Danny Hanson and Goergen racing for second while AJ Zvorak and Blowers raced for fourth. With five completed Zvorak slowed and dropped out of the race. On lap second Blowers was joined by Troy Voth and Danny Ganz as they went three wide for fourth. Holland continued to lead up front with Hanson in second until Holland's mount collapsed the left front bringing out the caution. On the restart Hanson led with Ganz working into second. Voth and Goergen joined Ganz in a three car battle for second on lap nine. Voth took the spot while Blowers now joined the other two battling for third. Voth sat in second behind Hanson as the laps wound down. Ganz sat soundly in third with Blowers behind him as they raced to the finish with Hanson taking home the win.
Early in the day action took place on the Button Buck speedway with the Truck Country Junior Slingshots up first. Lexi Schott leads Matthew Schliesman out of two of their feature event. Schott pushed up on lap two with Schliesman working past into the lead. Bailey Karau sat in third with Ryan Wetzstein and Dustin Sorensen in the top five. With five done Schliesman pushed over the back stretch allowing Schott back out front. Schliesman slowed and pulled off track bringing out a caution with five to go. On the restart Schott led with Sorensen working into second and Derek Clement and Karau pushed up after making contact battling for second. Schott took home the win followed by Sorensen and Clement.
Jackson Hale took the lead on the scramble of the start of the Pee-Wee feature. Garrett Koster moved into second with Keagan Einck in third. A couple restarts after the first couple laps were completed saw Hale still leading with Koster in second and Jim Chisholm now into third. Koster and Chisholm battled for the second spot as the laps wound down with Chisholm taking the spot as Koster lost the handle of his machine over the turn four bank. On the restart Hale led Chisholm in second and Einck back up into the third spot as the checkers waved over the field.
The Senior Truck Country Slingshots ran their feature event during the big track intermission with Lexi Schott getting the early jump. Matthew Schliesman, Jeremy Paulson and Nia Gardner were briefly three wide for third. Schliesman took control of second with Paulson in third. A caution slowed the field on lap four. On the restart Schott led with Paulson working into second. Schliesman settled into third. Dustin Sorensen worked into the top five as the laps wore down. Schott took home the win followed by Paulson and Schliesman.
