Steve Hixson CLEVELAND, Tenn. (June 18) - Knoxville, Tennessee's Brad Hall survived an opening lap quagmire of the 25 lap LLM/Crate Cleveland Speedway Classic, winning the $1,500 first place prize. Fast Qualifier of twenty-two (22) racecars was Brian Kinnersley and the Morganton, GA racer would win the first of two heats to start on the pole of the feature. Kinnersley and outside pole sitter Billy Mayo would not complete the first lap of the feature as the two crashed collecting Lee Goodman, Chuck Cooper and Kevin Gill. David Doss would trail Hall until Rick Hixson tracked down the front runners. Hixson had a late caution to set up a green-white-checkered restart, but couldn't get by the leader. Behind Hixson and Doss were; Brian Jackson and Bobby Mayse.
In the A-Hobby feature it was local racer Dustin Cansler taking the $400 prize over Richard Dixon. Ronnie Price, driving Robbie Greene's machine was third with Mike Bishop and David Goode following. The Pony feature saw a 20 lap OUTSIDER's DANCE between Chuck McMahan and Michael Courtney. McMahan would take the $500. top prize with Rocky McNabb, local Danny Burnette and N. Georgian Billy Callahan rounding out the top 5 behind Courtney. In other notes close to $800 was given away to the 50/50 ticket winner. Proceeds from the event went to JUVENILE DIABETES research. The 33rd Annual Stars-n-Stripes Budweiser Pony Mid-Season Championship is the next event coming up for the Cleveland Speedway a week from Saturday night, June 26th.
