Penn Can Speedway SUSQUEHANNA, Penn. (June 11) - Mike Gular of Green Lane, PA won his second modified feature of the season at Penn Can Friday with Dan Stone of Thompson winning the twenty five lap late model event. Grant Hilfiger of Canadensis strengthened his point lead in the crate sportsman winning for the third time this season. Shane Wolf Sr of Susquehanna made it two in a row in the street stocks while Klem Underwood of Meshopan returned to Victory Lane in the four cylinder division.
The largest Diaz Forest Products late model field took to the green for their twenty five lap feature with Paul Rooney jumping to the early lead. Rooney's lead was short as Jim O'Hara took command on lap two and kept his car out front during the early stages of the event. Former track champion Dan Stone found the outside to his liking and went into the lead on lap six. Stone and O'Hara would stay close through the mid of the race with former Penn Can winner, Ron Kline making his way through the pack to challenge the leaders. The final caution on lap seventeen brought the field together with Stone leading O'Hara, Kline, and Tracy Gregory. As the final laps clicked off Stone would remain in control and win for the first time in over two years at the speedway. O'Hara had another great run and took second with Kline third followed by Dan Snyder who recovered from an early race problem finish fourth with Gregory fifth.
Joey Colsten vaulted from the pole position to lead the early laps of the modified feature. The only caution of the race came on lap two with cars tangling in turn two. Colsten continued to look strong holding off last week's feature winner Allan Rudalavage, Brian Weaver, and Brian Decker. Rudalavage found an opening on lap eleven and took the lead away from Colsten with Weaver, Decker, and Mike Gular following. Gular was the man on the move getting to second on lap seventeen. With the leaders entering lapped traffic, Gular went low in turn four on lap eighteen to take the lead. Rudalavage, Weaver, and Decker all stayed close during the last remaining laps. With the two lap signal out, Rudalavage got a bumper under Gular to try and regain the top spot only to be held off at the finish and settled for second. Weaver came home third with his best finish of the season with Brett Tonkin making a late race charge for fourth. Decker had his best outing of 2010 finishing in the fifth spot.
Bob Janesky took command of the Hornbeck Chevrolet crate sportsman feature and lead the first eleven laps before Grant Hilfiger took command on a lap twelve restart. Hilfiger and last week's winner Butch Green fought nose to tail over the last several laps with Hilfiger holding the edge. The final caution of the race flew on lap nineteen wiping out Hilfiger's advantage. With a one lap dash to the finish, Hilfiger kept the position with Mike Nagel Jr making a last lap pass on Green to get second at the line. Green was third followed by Janesky, and Adam MacGeorge.
Shane Wolf Sr has been hot at Penn Can in the S&W Awards Street Stock division. Wolf came from his sixth starting position and took control of the race early. His main challenger was his son, Shane Jr who would pressure for the top spot until mechanical problems sent him pitside. Butch Green then took up the chase only to drop out with three laps remaining. Wolf would win for the second week in a row with Ryan Stone finishing second in his best out of the year. Jason Butler, Carl Shimer, and Ray Linquist rounded out the top five.
In the four cylinder feature event Klen Underwood lead the first lap only to be overtaken by Joe Warner who would lead for the next four circuits until Underwood repassed for the top spot. Underwood would hold off Warner, Andy Brigham, and Justin Lawrence for his second win of 2010.
