Lee County Speedway
DONNELLSON, Iowa (May 28) - A dry slick, smooth racetrack awaited the drivers for the first time in 2010 at Lee County Speedway, Friday, at is seemed to give a few drivers major problems.

However, while some struggled, others picked up their first feature wins of the season at the 3/8th-mile semi-banked dirt oval.

Jeff Aikey was the IMCA Late Model feature winner, while Jeff Mueller got the IMCA Stock Car feature win. Dan Wenig, Hobby Stocks, and Gabe Harrison, Wild Things, also picked up their first wins of the season at the track. Jason Cook got his third feature win, but first of 2010 in the IMCA Sport Mods, while Michael picked up his first points paying feature event in the IMCA Modifieds.

Aikey took the lead from Boone McLaughlin in the middle stages of the Late Model feature, and then held off the advances of Mark Burgtorf, who would finish in the second spot. McLaughlin held on for a third place finish, while Denny Woodworth and Lonnie Bailey rounded out the top.

In the Stock Car feature, Mueller quickly moved his way to the front and dominated the final 13 laps of the feature event, on the way to the win. Matt Greiner continues to show he will have little trouble making the transition to the IMCA Stock Car, as he finished second in the event, while Jim Redman finished in the third spot. Jason Cook and Abe Huls finished off the top five.

Cook, who had won the first two Stock Car features of the season at Lee County, switched his victory dance to the IMCA Sport Mods victory lane, as he held of a constant charge from 2009 point champion Rodger Dresden. Dresden spent the race running the high side, while Cook used the low line to win. Dresden did finish second, followed by Phillip Cossel, Rod Staats and Mike Shelton.

The IMCA invert made for good racing, for at least a few laps, as it took Long four laps to find his way to the front, but when he got there he ran away. Brandon Rothzen, who followed Long through the field, made a run at the eventual race winner, but could not get close enough to threaten down the stretch. Rich Smith continues to run well, finishing third, while Josh Foster came from 12th to take the fourth spot. Jeff Waterman rounded out the top 5.

The Hobby Stock feature was relatively uneventful, which tends to happen when a Wenig starts on the pull. This time it was Dan Wenig who started on the poll and led every lap en route to the win, after Jake Wenig won from the poll in the first point race of the season, May 14. Tanner Thomann ran a solid second, while Jeremy Pundt continues a solid early season with a third place finish. After winning Saturday, Jim Lynch ran to a fourth place finish, followed by Victor Hastings.

After the car bobbled on a restart midway through the Wild Things feature, it appeared Harrison might be out of luck after starting on the poll and leading early in the race. Dakota Fenton took over the race lead, and controlled the middle stages of the race, before Harrison was able to get his car wound back up. Eventually, Harrison found his way back by for the feature win. Michael Grossman made a late charge to finish in the runner-up spot, while Fenton held on for third. William Michel and Don DeMint rounded out the top five.

Weekly racing action returns to Lee County Speedway, Friday, with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30.
