PERRIS, Calif. (May 22) - Mike Kirby of Torrance, CA captured his second straight Late Model main event victory on Saturday night at the Perris Auto Speedway. The defending West Coast Shootout champion passed race leader Nick Bartels of El Segundo, CA with two laps remaining in feature to collect the $1,200 winner's purse.

The young Bartels suffered engine problems earlier in the evening and climbed into his Dad's #12 mount for the main event. The move forced him to start last in the field.  Bartels moved up through the field with ease while other last row starter Kirby followed him to the front. Within five circuits, Bartels deposed pole sitter John Crow for the lead and pulled Kirby along for the chase for the checkers. Kirby tested Bartels several times throughout the race until finally taking advantage and passing for the lead. Bartels finished second with Dino Napier, Bill Bartels and Carla Laney rounding out the top five finishers.

Joey Moriarty of Phoenix, CA made the trip to Perris for a first visit and posted the fastest lap of 14 entries during qualifying. Moriarty's 17.922 lap edged out a 17.947 by track master Kirby. Nick Bartels of El Segundo, CA was third quick at 18.402. John Crow captured the first heat race over Bill Bartels and Carla Laney. Kirby outdistanced Mike Hixson and Tommy Malcolm in the second heat race.

The Late Models will return to the PAS on June 5th for their 4th appearance of the 2010 season.
