DODD DRIVES TO LATE MODEL MAIN EVENT WIN SATURDAY NIGHT AT WAYNE COUNTY SPEEDWAY

Wayne County Speedway
ORVILLE, Ohio (May 15) - Sometimes you think that it cant get any better. However week after week it actually does. I'm talking about the quality of racing at Wayne County Speedway. On Saturday night twenty seven very good Late Models took to the track and afforded the huge crowd with yet another fantastic racing program. Three heats and a consi race were contested after Ryan Markham set fast time in qualifying. Those three heat were won by Brad Malcuit, Jason Flory and Rick Aukland. The B main winner was D.J. Cline.

Weston Hutchinson won the Dash and was on the pole with Doug Dodd on the outside of the front row as row two saw Doug Drown and Markham as the Frosty Twins Late Models came down to the green. Dodd blasted to the point and really set sail in his Bubby's Drive Thru, Darrell's Automotive number 12. The number twelve was very popular as the first three cars in the line up was that number with Hutchinson, Dodd and Drown. By the time the fifth lap was scored, Dodd had a sizable lead over Hutchinson, Drown and Markham and they continued to try to catch the leader who had pretty much checked out on them. On lap fifteen, lap traffic became a player in ther race as Hutchinson was able to move very close to the leader, however Dodd worked the traffic to his advantage and went flag to flag for his first win of the year. Late in the race Markham and Drown exhibited a good race for position and at the finish line it was Hutchinson getting second, Markham was third, Drown gathered in fourth place and Jeff Esbenshade taking fifth place in his first night out.

Rick Aukland made it a clean sweep in the Tri State Modifieds as he set fast time, won the dash and was the first across the finish line in the feature event. Travis Dickson and his father Mark Dickson won the two heats as twenty five open wheelers were in attendance. Aukland fell in behind Cory Conley at the drop of the green then pulled up beside him before edging out front and staying there the balance of the event. Kyle Brown in his first race of the season and Mark Gardiner elated the fans as they raced wheel to wheel several time as D.J. Cline and Travis Dickson mixed it up as well. Following Aukland to the finish was Conley, Gardiner, Cline and Brown. Nick Smith had the run of the night going as he had moved out of the B Main, started sixteenth and was up to eighth place until lap
