Harlan Osborne PETALUMA, Calif. (May 15) - Before the first green flag dropped at the start of the season Morgan Hill's Jeff Decker had his eyes set on capturing Petaluma Speedway's All-Pro Series Late Model championship and after three races nothing has blocked Decker's path although Richard Papanehausen looked like he was in the driver's seat to halt Decker's two-race winning streak Saturday night until Papenhausen, trailing a big smoke trail indicating serious motor problems, pulled into the infield after leading for 19 laps, opening the door for Decker, who took charge on Lap 21 and held on to win for the third consecutive time in 2010. "So far, so good, we've still got the luck rolling our way," said Decker, after describing the changes made to his race car after he struggled earlier in the night.
A third row starter, Decker ran fourth behind Papenhausen, Anthony Restad, and fast qualifier Rod Arnold for most of the race, with Papenhausen controlling the tempo until his car began smoking after 15 laps. Just before Papenhausen pulled off, third running Arnold came out of Turn 4 sideways, the victim of a mechanical failure, lifting Decker to second place behind Restad with five laps to go. Restad slipped to fifth as Decker took command over John Silva, Paul Guglielmoni, and Chevy McGinnis, which was the order of finish. Papenhausen, Arnold, Dennis Souza, Steve Johnson, and Danny Potts rounded out the finish.
