Penn Can Speedway SUSQUEHANNA, Penn. (May 14) - On a beautiful Friday night for racing Bobby Trapper of Scranton, Pennsylvania won the modified main event ending a two year drought at the speedway. In the late model main event, Grandview star Ron Kline made the tow to Penn Can pay off with the win. Corey Ziegler of Canadensis became a first time winner in the crate sportsman while Shane Wolf Jr of Susquehanna continued his hot streak winning in the street stocks. The Baldwin father and son team swept the Xcel 600 features while Andy Brigham of New Milford won the four cylinder feature.
The late model feature saw Tracy Gregory draw the pole position for the twenty lap feature. Gregory jumped out early and looked to run away with the show until a seven lap caution slowed the show. On the restart, invading Ron Kline wrestled the lead from Gregory while Jom O'Hara and Dave Zona pulled their cars into the mix. Lap after lap Kline held the top spot with the three challengers swapping positions each lap. The second and final caution of the race came on lap eleven with Kline leading followed by Gregory, Zona, and O'Hara. When racing resumed, Kline held off all challenges and won his first ever Penn Can feature. Kline was followed across by Gregory, Zona, O'Hara, and Steven Deinhardt.
The new crate division twenty lap feature was another exciting race producing another first time winner. Corey Ziegler moved from his outside starting position to the front of the pack to take the lead. With Ziegler building a lead, Jon Carpenter, Grant Hilfiger, and Mike Nagel all were coming to the front. When it looked like Ziegler would run green to checker, the caution flew late in the going bringing the field back together. With Ziegler out front Hilfiger and Nagel prepared to mount a charge to the checker. Ziegler held strong over the final five laps and won his first feature at Penn Can. Hilfiger, Nagel, Carpenter, and Adam MacGeorge made up the top five.
Mike Nagel and Bobby Gunther Walsh lead the twenty four car modified field to the green with Nagel jumping to the early lead. Walsh came back on top taking the postion on a restart only to surrender the top spot to Bobby Trapper on lap five. Trapper and Mike Pompey swapped the top spot back and forth during the early going with Nagel, Brian Decker, and Billy Thornton close behind. The caution came back out on lap eleven pulling the field back together with Pompey in the top spot. With the green back out Trapper and Pompey continued to dice back and forth for the lead with Trapper getting the upper hand on lap fifteen.
With Trapper leading the battle now shaped up for the runner-up spot with Pompey, Thorton, Mike Gular, and Darwin Greene all in the hunt. Gular pick off positions as the laps were winding down with Trapper comfortably out front. The final caution of the event flew on lap twenty nine setting up a one lap dash for the cash. Trapper held on with Gular finishing second followed by Pompey, Thornton, and Greene. Brian Weaver, Danny Creeden, Mike Colsten, Frank Yankowski, and Brett Tonkin rounded out the top ten.
With last week's street stock winner starting deep in the pack, it looked like there might be a new winner in the division. Kris Shimer was the early leader surrendering the top spot to Shane Wolf Sr on lap nine. With Wolf Sr leading Shane Wolf Jr moved into the pick after the halfway point of the feature. Wolf Jr overtook his father on lap fifteen and cruised home the winner. Wolf Sr was second followed by Butch Green, and Kenny Sparks Jr.
In the four cylinder feature event Andy Brigham took his mount to the high side of the speedway and went around to the lead on lap four. Brigham held back the challenges of point leader Lance Albanese, and Justin Lawrence to win his first feature of 2010.
