DIERCKS TOPS IMCA LATE MODELS IN KOEHLER ELECTRIC OPENER AT DAVENPORT SPEEDWAY

DAVENPORT, Iowa (May 14) - After three weeks of agonizing rainouts, the Davenport Speedway finally got the Koehler Electric Season Opener in the record books.

The first point race of 2010 is certainly one that Bret Diercks will remember. Diercks led all 25 laps of the Petersen Plumbing and Heating - IMCA Late Model feature event.

Diercks started on the pole, next to Mike Zemo Jr. While Bret was en route to victory lane, Zemo was not so fortunate. Zemo flipped his car in turn one, on lap four. He escaped without serious injury.

While Diercks was comfortably in the lead a group of four racers were making their way to the front. Terry Neal started 14th and worked his way to a second place finish. After starting tenth, Mike Murphy Jr. would come home third. Kevin Blum started 11th and wound up fourth. Ray Guss Jr. was also in the advancing pack, but was sidelined by a flat tire just past midway. Nate Buesling rounded out the top five.

Doug Crampton and Tim Arp started on the front row of the Goacher Towing Pro Modified feature. Arp jumped out to the early lead, but after a lap three caution, Crampton would come back to take qway the top pot. Crampton would later get a challenge from Thad Wilson. Wilson got beside Crampton several times, but could not make a pass for the lead.

Crampton would race to the checkers with Wilson holding on to second. John Bull came froma fourth row starting spot to finish third, followed by Milo Veloz Jr. and Arp.

Cary Brown used a last lap pass to grab the win in the Koehler Electric Street Stock feature. Brown blasted by Joe Beal to take the victory. Beal started on the pole and had led the first eleven laps before giving up the lead and settling for second. Matt Werner finished third, followed by Bruce Fosdyck Jr., and Jeremy Marquette.

Jacob Waterman dominated the EMS IMCA Modified main. Waterman started on the outside of the front row and led the entire distance of the green, white, checkered race. Jerry Pratt took second, followed closely by Max Corporon in third. Joe Jones Jr. and Randy Christner rounded out the top five

Kevin Haury of Stockton, got out in front of the 4 Stock feature early and drove to his first feature win of the season. Luke Thurness finished a solid second with Mike Morrow overcoming an early problem to finish third. Jake Montoya and Randy Sinning completed the top five. Sinning also won the 4 Stock heat race.

Next Friday, May 21st is Kid's Night at the Davenport Speedway starring Crumbo the Clown and featuring Bike Races.
