BURGTORF CAPTURES BUDWEISER IMCA LATE MODEL FEATURE WIN AT QUINCY RACEWAYS

Jack Walbring
QUINCY, Ill. (May 9) - Mother Nature gave Quincy Raceways a break this week for Mother Day and did not rain this week to cause a third straight cancellation. Mark Burgtorf, Jared Schlipman, Terry Houston and Tanner Klingele all picked up feature event wins during Rock Solid Hunting Preserve Night at the Races.

Burgtorf drew the outside front row starting position for the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model feature event and was the odds on favorite to take the early lead and drive away from the field but it was just a little harder than that as Jason Perry led the first seventeen circuits before Burgtorf got the edge coming out of turn four in a hotly contested battle for the top spot on the eighteenth lap. Burgtorf then held off Matt Bailey and Perry over the remaining laps to take the first points race feature event of the 2010 season. Perry got by Bailey on the twenty eighth lap for the second spot and held Bailey in third at the checkered flag. Robbie Warner scored fourth and Dustin Griffin fifth. Joey Gower, Warner and Perry took the heat race wins over the twenty one car field with Burgtorf claiming the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Jared Schlipman had a huge night in the Miller Lite UMP Modifieds by taking a second place finish in his heat race, a win in the Advance Trading Trophy Dash and his first ever feature event win in the Miller Lite UMP Modified main event. The Trophy Dash win got Schlipman the pole position starting spot in the twenty five lap main event and the young hot shoe made good use of it as he led every lap on his way to his first feature event checkered flag. Schlipman first held off veteran Steve Grotz for the first twenty laps and then David Wietholder over the final couple of circuits to take the win followed by Wietholder in second, Shawn Deering in third, Steve Grotz in fourth and Troy Grotz in fifth. Justin Reed, Steve Grotz and Tony Dunker were the heat race winners as twenty six UMP Modifieds signed in to do battle.

The Triple R Performance Engines IMCA Stock Car main event was settled in the wrong place this Sunday night as the tech lane came into play. Andrew Griffin crossed the finish line in the fist position followed by Terry Houston in second, Abe Huls in third, Steve Steinkuhler in fourth and Jerry Jansen in fifth but the finishing order suffered a major shakeup as it was determined by IMCA Stock Car rules that the rear Control Arms on both Griffin and Steinkuhler did not measure out to the correct dimensions. Houston was awarded the feature win with Huls in second, Jansen in third, Wes Mayfield in fourth and Aaron Brocksieck in fifth. Jeff Mueller and Brocksieck were the heat race winners.

Tanner Klingele came back from a disappointing night three weeks ago to claim his first ever Hobby Stock feature event win. Klingele drove a great race holding back Travis Booher after the two checked out on the rest of the field in the twenty lap main event but the tech lane came into play again as Booher's car was protested and found to be outside the rules giving the second spot over to Jim Powell, third then went to Mike Wiley, fourth Steve Carlin and fifth to Jake Powers. Klingele and Nathan Anders were the heat race winners.

Coming up next at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, May 16 will be Budweiser Rinella Distributing Night at the Races as the points racing season really starts to heat up. Remember the pit gates open at 3, Grandstands at 4, Drivers Registration ends and Drivers Meeting at 4:45, Hot Laps at 5 and racing at 5:30pm.
