Steve Hixson CLEVELAND, Tenn. (May 8) - With racing action halted for the past two (2) weeks, over 60 raceteams were ready to race as the A-Hobby Mid-Season Championship was up for grabs, Saturday night at Cleveland Speedway. In the Super Late Model A-Main 30-Lap Event, Jake Knowles picked off Todd Morrow in back-marker traffic early in race and held on for the $1,200 payday. Knowles in the #66 "CarSmart Auto Sales, Cleveland Speedway Driving School, Cruise with the Champions" MasterSbilt / R.E.D had lap after lap challenge by Morrow who'd finish second at the races conclusion. Brad Coffey made a last lap pass of Gabe Wilson for a 3rd place finish. SHORTY Keith Frazier kept going (and would round out the Top 5 offically) despite suffering problems after problems. Frazier was even the FQ of the night during CAR SMART AUTO SALES qualifying time trials. So far in 2010 no repeat SLM winners have occurred at Cleveland Speedway after eight (8) races.
The A-Hobby Mid Season Championship saw Richard Dixon take the checkers in the 25-lap extended feature. Unfortunately Dixon was light at the scales and subsequently DQ'd, handing the victory to young Dustin Cansler. Allen Jolly was DQ'd also from 3rd moving up Scott Gravitt, Blake Armitage, John Clark and Adam West into the Top 5. In the LLM/Crate Feature race, young Tanner Works threw caution to the wind against leader Bobby Doss exiting turn four of the final lap during the A-Main feature race. The two crashed together under the flagstand and it was Works winning by mere inches, taking his career first Late Model style victory after moving from the A-Hobby's. Doss was 2nd with Dustin Golden 3rd, Brian Pritchard 4th (after leading most of the race and suffering a flat right-rear) and Brandon Gray rounded out the Top 5.
In the B-Hobby (Heavy Metal Monsters of the Midway) division; Loomis Smith got his career first feature win. Coey Shrader, Brandon Wright, Shane Nunley and Jason Brown rounded out the field. The Pony feature was won by Wendall Ingram. Tim Duggard, Jimmy Elliott, Corey Green and Josh Walker rounded out the Top 5. In the final race of the evening; Tommy Hughes was the winner of the FWD division feature. Tom Gilbert, Derrick Forgey, Michael Arp and Matt Patton rounded out the field. Next Saturday a Full Racing Program is on-tap for All Classes, beginning at 7:30PM. In two weeks the Southern All-Star series returns for the yearly TENNESSEE MEMORIAL RACE which is a $5,000 to-WIN big event.
