MCGUIRE TAKES AMRA LATE MODELS 'THUNDER FORTY' VICTORY AT THE SKYLINE SPEEDWAY

Skyline Speedway
STEWART, Ohio (April 30) - Grayson, Kentucky's Josh McGuire blitzed the field in the 'Thunder Forty' for AMRA Late Models Friday night at Billy Jarrell's Skyline Speedway. Grove City, Ohio driver Cole Duncan won the Ohio Valley Sprint Car Association 410 sprint main, while Jeremy Blake claimed the AMRA modifieds, Barry Brisker took the Pure Stocks, and Tommy Adkins claimed the Four Cylinders. 119 cars flooded the pits for the sizzling night of competition, while one of the largest Skyline crowds in years came out for the evening's festivities.

The 'Thunder Forty' Late Model Invitational for AMRA Late Models saw Grayson, KY driver Josh McGuire claim the $2,000 paycheck over another hard-charger, Chris Garnes of Evans, WV. The 40-lap affair had just one caution, a lap-20 ride into the uke tires by young Nick Dohm as McGuire dominated all stages of the event.

While McGuire, Garnes, Carpenter, and Jeff Burdette battled it out early, K.C. Burdette and Larry Bond were pushing hard through the field. Burdette came from 12th to third at the finish, while Bond, the hard charger, blasted from 14th to fourth and a dramatic Bond-like effort. But early on Garnes, Carpenter, Jeff Burdette, and Freddie Carpenter plundered for position.

McGuire was straight and fast on the 3/8 mile bullring that took rubber as the race progressed, tightening up the chassis on many of the competitors. Thus, several grooves developed on the rubber clad surface. McGuire adjusted best in leading flag to flag for his 9th Skyline feature win.

South Parkersburg driver Chris Carpenter, last week's winner, was a strong fourth ahead of Dad 'Fast Freddie Carpeter, Jeff Burdette, Cory Conley, Tony Roush, and Dan Morrison.

McGuire said, "It's a new car and I knew this was the place to shake it down. I love Skyline and ole C.J. knows best (of his C.J. Rayburn Chassis). The car was great all through the race."

"I needed a win. Now, I can eat Peanut Butter and Jelly instead of crackers," the veteran laughed.
