Michael Despain JUNCTION CITY, Ky. (April 30) - The National All Star Racing Association would visit Ponderosa Speedway on Friday evening for the 11th Annual Hugh "Junebug" Rowland Memorial and Mike Marlar of Winfield, TN would claim victory for the third time in his career in this race. Other feature winners for the night would include Jeremy Hines of Seymour, IN in Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Models, Kelly Warren of Columbia, KY in Clayton Homes UMP Modifieds, and Gerald Haynes, Jr. of Somerset, KY in D&D Pallet Recyclers UMP Sportsman.
The start of the NASRA "Junebug" Memorial would see Mike Marlar take the race lead, with Brad Neat, Dustin Neat, Dustin Linville, and Eric Wells giving chase. Dustin Neat would take second on lap 2 before the caution waved one trip later when Michael Chilton spun in turn one, collecting Jeff Watson, Bobby Wolter, Jr., and Arnie Fields. Back underway, Marlar and Dustin Neat would battle for the race lead, with Eric Wells taking fourth from Linville on lap 6. Victor Lee would make his way into the top five on lap 14 as race leader Marlar would begin to work heavy traffic one circuit later. At the halfway mark, Marlar would still hold the lead, but Dustin Neat was beginning to slowly reel in the race leader, while Brad Neat, Wells, and Linville would battle for third through fifth. By lap 25, runner-up Dustin Neat had closed up on Marlar, with Lee working to the outside of Wells to take fourth on lap 27. Dustin Neat would close to Marlar's rear bumper on lap 31 and was beginning to mount a charge for a pass for the lead, as Lee scooted by Brad Neat for third one lap later. But the battle for the lead would never materialize as caution flew on lap 35 as Dustin Linville sat pointed in the wrong direction in turn four, with Linville later black-flagged for making contact with another car during the caution period. The lap 35 restart would be waved off as a caution for debris again slowed the pace. The final five circuits would go caution free, with Marlar pulling away for the win in his Mulligan Plumbing/Wayne Bowen Racing Supply/Doors-N-More/G&R Hydraulics/Performance Battery/VP Fuels/Erson Cams/PBM/PPM/DWT Wheels sponsored #157 C.J. Rayburn Race Car, Estes Race Engines motored mount. Dustin Neat, 10th starting Lee, Brad Neat, and Wells would complete the top five. Tim Tungate would head up the second five, followed by Aaron Ridley, Justin Rattliff, Skylar Marlar, and Randy Weaver. In preliminary action, Wells was top qualifier among 35 entries at 13.908 seconds, with Dustin Neat, Mike Marlar, Brad Neat, and Linville winning the heats. The B-Mains were scored by Whitney McQueary and Bobby Wolter, Jr., with the fast time provisional going to Aaron Hatton, series provisionals going to David Webb and Dale Dillon, and Ernie Cordier was the track provisional.
The 20 lap Bob Allen Motor Mall Pro Late Model feature would see Jeremy Hines and Todd Coffman battle thoughout the early and mid-stages of the race before Hines would pull away a bit from Coffman in the waning laps of the event to claim the win aboard the Jack Rainey owned Lineal Contracting/White River Co-Op/Bedford Transport/THR Motorsports sponsored #49 MasterSbilt Race Car, GM604 powered ride on double track points night for the division. Coffman would claim second, followed by P.J. Feistritzer in third. John Mulligan would take fourth, with Billy Wooldridge scoring a fifth place finish. Completing the top ten would be Kevin Colston, Gary Yeager, Clarence Belcher, Todd Mingey, and Dusty Maybrier. In preliminary events, Hines would also be top qualifier among 15 entries at 14.447 seconds and would also win the dash, while Colston would garner top honors in the heat.
