Hagerstown Speedway HAGERSTOWN, Md. (April 17) - It was cold, windy and plain ugly Saturday evening at Hagerstown Speedway on Duron Paint night but Marvin Winters turned up the wick and became the third different winner this season after leading all but the first lap in the late model feature. Starting fourth in the nine car invert, Winters, from McConnellsburg, Pa, passed Dylan Yoder and held on in a one lap shootout to score his career 24th win by .78 seconds over Yoder.
"I figured if I held my line, they were going to have a tough time, but with a lot of fast guys here, you can't count on anything," Winters said as he dedicated the win to his father, Homer, for his Friday birthday. "The guys did a good job on the car. It was pretty well hooked up. My dad tunes the motors. Tex Shaffer is a great guy to drive for; he gives me everything I ask for. That's what it takes."
Williamsport's Pete Weaver put his #16 in victory lane in the Hoosier Tire Mid-Atlantic late model sportsman feature for the 16th time in his career after starting outside pole in the six car inversion. With five of the Ernie D's pure stocks going for the win and three for a first time, Chambersburg's Steve Lowery finally broke through the ice on the final lap and got his number one triumph by a length. Krazy Kenny Thomas of Keedysville, Md. was victorious in the Enduro Dash for the second consecutive time.
With nine cars inverted for the late model feature, Yoder pulled ahead of seven time champion Roy Deese Jr. after starting on the outside pole. Winters powered ahead off the fourth turn to lead the second circuit with several cars getting together in the first turn behind him.
While Winters set the pace and continued to hold a one second plus advantage over Yoder, Frankie Plessinger was occupying his time while Deese and J.T. Spence were battling for fourth.
As Winters approached the rear of the field, Yoder and Plessinger were also closing in but suddenly Al Shawver Jr. sixth place run came to an end as he coasted to a stop in turn three with one to go.
Winters glued himself to the bottom and sped around the final circuit to capture the win over Yoder and Plessinger while Spence and Deese completed the top five.
"That makes a fellow sweat when you have those cautions at the end," Winters said. "The track was great. It slowed a bit from last week and you could pass. Last week was just too fast and you couldn't."
Alan Sagi finished sixth after starting 15th with Jim Yoder, Billy Wampler(17th), Andy Anderson and James Myers (19th) completing the top ten. J.Yoder, Spence and Tyler Armstrong were the heat winners with Myers taking the consolation.
