TANNER HOLDS OFF TOUGH LATE MODEL FIELD
FOR VICTORY AT COTTAGE GROVE SPEEDWAY

Ben Deatherage
COTTAGE GROVE, Ore. (April 17) - It was a similar plot with the weather in the forecast early in the week with the mother nature looking to add another rain out but the winds of change kept the rain away and brought out the sun to make conditions perfect for last Saturday night at the Cottage Grove Speedway in Oregon. For the second time of 2010 the Cottage Grove Speedway was able to get a race completed as last weekend seen the All-American Street Stocks, Modifieds, Late Models, and the 2010 debut of the Limited Sprints.

The Late Models seen several top notch teams making the venture to the Cottage Grove Speedway. The main event brought the fans an excellent battle for the lead between Springfield's Mike Miller and Justin Simpson from Bend. But Joey Tanner of Portland would come out of nowhere to get to the lead and produce such a great lead no one was in sight. But cautions occurred on several occasions, seven to be exact, especially around the halfway mark which put the contenders right behind the leader Tanner. Tanner would go on to pull off the victory with over a two second margin of victory for his first win of 2010 which was also his first race on dirt for the year as well.

"We had a really good car tonight with Casey and Phil Vitale helping this year and the car was really good and it great to come out with a car that is good and win," Tanner would say, "I've had some bad luck on dirt but it's cool to finally win one but some of those cautions made me nervous because it gave those guys a second chance."

Trent Elliott of Redmond battled hard all night long but his hard work paid off by finishing in the second spot followed by Justin Simpson, Chuck Christian of Eugene in a great race in a new car, and Mark Carrell finished in fifth after coming back from a wreck on lap twenty which collected five cars. Trent Elliott was the evenings fast timer of the night at 14.879 seconds while Tanner seen success earlier in the night by winning the trophy dash. Heat races were won by Mark Carrell and Randy Martin of Eugene.

Well fans that does it for this week's action at the Cottage Grove Speedway next week will be one surely not to miss. This Friday and Saturday night will be the Grove 360 Classic where the best drivers in the Northwest will converge to the famed  mile clay oval to take home the prize money. For the last seven main events Roger Crockett of Medford has won and will look to sweep the weekend again but several drivers differ in opinion and they will look to hoist the trophy. Support classes will be on hand as well Friday evening will see the Mini Sprint and Saturday evening will see the Mini Sprints and Modifieds in action. Tickets and times for general admission are the following Adults-$12, Seniors & Students-$10, Children 6 to 11-$5, 5 & Under-Free.
